Bugbear Cancels Next Car Game Kickstarter

The Next Car Game Kickstarter has been brought to a screeching halt.

Bugbear Entertainment's Next Car Game, the "destruction racing" follow-up to the FlatOut franchise, recently took to Kickstarter [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129262-Next-Car-Game-Drops-the-Hammer-On-Kickstarter] in an effort to supplement the studio's own preorder campaign. But with little more than a week remaining and not even a quarter of the goal achieved, Bugbear has elected to pull the plug.

"Although our Kickstarter campaign has attracted tremendous enthusiasm, during the last couple of weeks it's become obvious that we are not going to meet our goal," the studio wrote in the most recent update. "Because of this we have decided concentrate on our efforts on the pre-order campaign."

To encourage preorder support, Bugbear has released a playable "technology sneak peek" to all supporters that features a "playground" the studio uses to test things like car damage and environmental destruction. The studio also posted a brief video of the playground in action and while it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of "game" on tap, the visual effects on display are undeniably impressive.

Bugbear's homegrown crowdfunding efforts will continue at nextcargame.com [http://nextcargame.com/].
