So, Heres my plan, I wanna get a gaming computer that'll last me for the next five years. I do not have enough technical know how to build know how myself. I want a 3D computer, and I want the best graphics card money can buy at the moment. I, however, have a spending max $2,300. give or take a few bucks.

I have constructed a computer that I think is exactly what I want. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1CYACB
It can be found there.

I prefer Nvidia graphics cards. I have no knowledge of motherboards and little knowledge of processors. I would like to know if the computer up there is good enough to stay fresh for five years and if not, can you construct one and send me the link?

If thats not enough discussion value: Which is better Nvidia or ATI?
Nvidia is the best at the moment, especially for 3D. You would be best off building a PC yourself to get the best bang for your buck, its pretty easy since you arent looking to watercool. I build computers for friends, family, and of course myself. My latest project was a watercooled $4000 quad sli beast, so I know more than a thing or two about this stuff unlike half the people giving you advice who probably are using a prebuilt p.o.s. Dell.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything!

Ivy Bridge is using the 1155 socket, the socket 2011's should even them away. They'll likely be expensive, but with 2300 for a system wouldn't be a problem.
Ah, just read up on them. New socket to handle the extreme high end of the SB CPUs (6 and 8 core), the ones it appears will be released as CPUs rather than APUs with on-die GPU. Will probably be the same for IBs - Socket R for the extreme high end CPUs.

Personally, I'm going to hold off until the 22nm version of Bulldozer (or whatever AMD decide to name it, probably something exciting like Bulldozer II knowing them)... because I'm both an AMD fanboy (had nothing but bad luck with Intel) and it'll take me at least that long to save up for it. :D
God I used to be an AMD fanboy, for about a decade. In that time I had probably around 8-10 processors fry on me, despite watercooling, TEC cooling, etc. Eventually I got fed up and got an Intel Pentium D, overclocked the hell out of it, and had no problems what so ever.

Pretty much the same story with ATI for me.

Whatever price I build a computer for, I generally match that price with cooling systems alone, it's pretty crazy I had so much shit fry.

Might not be so great to bring a girl over too, they might be impressed though.
Or they might really hate MSI motherboards... despite the fact that no other manufacturer I know of has a line of motherboards that will let you run a nVidia GPU card and an ATI/AMD GPU card in multi-GPU mode (allowing you to use the best features of both manufacturers) as well as supporting more normal crossfire/SLI modes.

One thing I've been wondering is how the new HD 6000 series handles crossfire with 5000 generations. The differences between the two aren't that vast. Hmm guess I should research it. Wouldn't surprise me if there was no way to run a 5870 with a 6970 in Crossfire for example.

That would be the strangest foreplay on earth imo.

You are paying a lot. The only place CyberPowerPC saves money is when you buy a cheaper PC. I know because I am talking to you from one.

The ATI 5770 inside of it, for instance, has no branding. It's an HIS card, and has HIS driver discs with it, but it has no branding/HIS stamp/design. That is because they get expensive components cheaper by getting floor models, open box, etc.

Sandy Bridge is the way to go if you are buying a PC today. Otherwise you could wait and see on Bulldozer (is that the new architecture from AMD? I think it is) or the 22nm replacement for the 1366 chips is dropping soon enough, not that you'll need them for gaming.

ATI vs NVIDIA buy the best card in your budget at the time of purchase. The best value card at the moment is the 460 gtx from Nvidia, the best single card is the 580 GTX (it is Fermi done right, it runs cooler than the 4890 it replaced in my rig, plus it does tesselation better than the ATIs) the most powerful thing you can put in your machine is the ATI/AMD 5970 which will be replaced soon by the 6990.

The fact that 22nm architecture is only 12-24 months away (depending on your manufacturer preferences) is why my current rebuild will be sticking with 45nm architecture to keep things cheap so I'll have the money to switch up to 22nm when it drops. I've decided to skip 32nm because it's going to have a short product life.
Man, everything Intel is putting out from now on will have a short product life, no holding onto a mobo and upgrading a chip anymore.

Man I can't wait to see what the Dozers will do. The idea behind the chip is a good one. It's not some haphazard way of running two threads on a single core *cough* HyperThreading *cough*

AMD aren't much better on that front. They're abandoning AM3 for AM3+/AM3r2 with Bulldozer and haven't made any commitment about retaining AM3+ past the 32nm Bulldozer.

Man, for every PC thread, we get the nVidia vs ATi wars.
We could change things up and have an Intel V AMD war if you want. :p
Yeah, but that one is completely winnable if both sides are willing to make some simple concessions based on statistics. AMD's are hands-down the best gaming CPUs because they perform just as well in games as the Intels, but they cost a lot less. Start throwing in things like video and file compression and suddenly Intel is leaps and bounds better.

So, if you are only a gamer, go AMD. If you do other stuff, consider Intel.

BTW Intel fanboy here.
