Building a computer

So, with Skyrim coming out I've decided I need a new computer, and I thought I might aswell go all out. Unfortunantly, I don't really know a lot about the computer component market, so I need some help putting together a shopping list. So what I'm looking for is the cheapest alternative that can run Skyrim on the highest setting at 60+ fps. Also, I'm not planning to overclock and I prefer intel.

If anyone could help a brother out I would be grateful.

No one will know what can run it at 60 FPS at high until it is out, we aren't freaking wizards.

Also we need a price range as you are going "all out".

I'll make a build when I get a price range back from you, system requirements aren't always truthful and are vague in terms of performance.

You want to go intel but don't want to overclock, seriously? You may as well OC the new SB chips as it is meant to be dead easy to do.

Well, when I said "run Skyrim at 60+ fps" I really ment "run Skyrim really really well". I'm mostly a console gamer and I just assumed that's the sort of thing you can read out of the system requirements. Maybe I was wrong, but I digress.

As for price range, money isn't really the issue here. I can go pretty high, but I still would like to get a pretty good bang for my buck.

I'll probably be running it high res. My current screen resolution is 2048x1152.

Also, I'm willing to go a little higher than 7000. What can I get at around 10000 NOK?

A few things, bumping to 1600MHZ RAM won't do much for performance though if you want to overclock then you may as well keep it and it isn't a huge price bump anyway.


750W is more than enough especially as you have 60A on the 12V rail which is a great amount. In fact it is overkill, go for the 650W as it is more than enough.

That HDD is insanely overpriced, do you not have an old HDD you can recycle???

If you could recycle an old HDD you could stick with the 750W PSU and run 2 560 Ti's in SLI for only 250 NOK more. You will have to change motherboard though to an SLI certified one rather than the crossfire enabled one you have picked.

So many choices...

I'll take that into account. There is nothing on the list that is incompatible, though?

One more thing. I'm considering is changing motherboard to this. Any thoughts on that?

I would suggest that you find a graphic card with more then 1gb vram.

And I personally own that motherboard and I like the "thermal" radar quite a lot.

Also, is anything I said kinda bullshit? I believe most of it is right but anyone can be wrong and a second opinion is always good to have.

Well if you take for an example Battlefield 3, then you need around 1.5gb vram for to play on ultra at 1920x1080 so it would suck(imo) to buy a graphic card and then not get enough performance simply cause its running out of memory (which doesn't help by adding a second card, since vram is "reflected")

And I personally would suggest that you go overboard with power supply unit, simply cause its more effective at 50-60% load and if you want to add another card/new card it would be annoying to have to buy a new psu as well as new gpu

Yeah I would suggest that or 6970/570 depending on your budget and which brand you prefer

The 570 has 1.25GB though, do you think that would be enough for the OP's needs, I know the card itself is great but you said 1.5 was preferable.

There is a 2.5gb version, but it also costs a bit more.
