So, it's safe to say that we are all familiar with the games industry and the difference between a mid-sized development studio like Respawn or Media Molecule and a Bedroom Developers like the crew at Introversion who created the topic of one of this month's featured articles, "Everybody Dies in DEFCON". But what about us? Surely we must have a slew of ideas, a veritable goldmine that can be plundered to create the next "big hit", or at least something that could be fun?
Well, let's say you have that idea. Some sort of game idea, and you've written up a design document for it. Where do you go from there? Do you jump straight into the creation process with the engine of your choice or do you put up the design document somewhere for critique? If so, where? Do you go solo or do you recruit a team to help you? At what point does the game actually go from being a concept to a project?
The reason I ask this is because I'm stuck in a creative rut. I have some basic tools (Game Maker, Source SDK, RPGMaker, ect) and knowledge of a few languages (Python, XML, C++, Java) but when it comes to creating a concept I get stuck, and now I'm looking for somewhere I can turn to to get feedback on the idea without having the idea itself be stolen. What do I do?
