So I'm building a gaming PC. Let it be known that I have mostly no clue what is good, bad, etc., but have mostly just found suggestions from all over the web.

VideoCard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162108
Processor: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-2500K-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B004EBUXHQ
MotherBoard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121599
HDD: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST1000DM003/dp/B005T3GRNW
OpticalDrive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146070
Speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-970264-0403-X-140-2-0-Speakers/dp/B000IF4788
Keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-002478-Keyboard-K120/dp/B003ELVLKU
OS: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-7-Home-Premium/dp/B002DHGMK0
Monitor: http://www.amazon.com/VS228H-P-21-5-Inch-Full-HD-Monitor-Black/dp/B005BZNDOO

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, this is a completely asinine question, I know, but does all of this stuff come "ready to put together?" Am I supposed to be obtaining cables? How do I know if everything fits into the case? I feel like I'm going to buy all of this and be screwed. Thanks for the help!

First glance, this all looks pretty good, although I'll freely admit that I'm not an expert. You've managed to avoid some common mistakes (like choosing an i7 over an i5), and the specs look pretty good.

The only thing that I'm seeing is that you probably don't need a 750W PSU, but for that price I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also, if you're going to university, it might be worth seeing if they offer free (and legal, don't worry) copies of Windows, which is a pretty common practice.

Thanks for the info. As soon as I get off winter break, I'll ask them about copies of windows!

Don't worry about this. It will come with every cable you need (usually you will end up with spares). Also I used that same case before and everything will fit without issue

Ah, thanks for the info. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time. And I'll search for other motherboards then!

THE PSU is an excellent choice if you want to SLI, but for your purposes you only need 500w. Besides that you did a great job on you research. I just think that case is as ugly as shit, but it does seem to be a good one.

I find that the company ASrock make very good quality motherboards for a reasonable price.

One last thing. If you intend to ever overclock that processor you will need to purchase an after market cooler. One that I would recommend is this:
