I'm looking to upgrade my PC as I am noticing visible issues in certain games that I can only describe as then screen 'tearing'. This is an example I found that looks like whats happening. Would upgrading to a higher resolution monitor be a contributing factor to this?
It's annoying me stupid so I've decided to upgrade and be done with it once and for all. Now I'm hoping to keep a few bits from this old machine and add them to the new one.

Here's what I'm currently running:
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Mother Board: ASUS P5KPL-CM
Memory: 4GB DDR2 (2 x 2GB)
HDD: 1 x 500GB, 1 x 1000GB
Video Card: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition
Cooling: CoolerMaster V8
PSU: Widetech 750w
Case: CoolerMaster CM 690 nVidea Edition
OS: Windows Vista
And here is what I am looking at.
CPU: Intel Core i7-870 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard:ASUS Maximus III Extreme
HDD: 1 x 60GB SSD, 1x 500GB (existing), 1x 1000GB (existing)
Memory: 2 x 4GB G.SKILL DDR3 1600MHz
Video Card: 1GB XFX ATI Radeon HD-5850 Black Edition + 1GB XFX ATI Radeon HD-5850 Black Edition (existing)
Optical: 1x LG Blu-ray Disc Combo SuperMulti Blue + 1 x LG CD/DVD RW (existing)
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold Series 1200W PSU
Cooling: Cooler Master V8 (existing)
Case: Cooler Master HAF X Full Tower Case
OS: Windows 7

These parts come to around $2500AUD, which I don't mind spending, but I want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. I know there are quite a few seasoned PC veterans out there (who would know a lot more then me), so please throw me some suggestions/additions/entire builds? for a new build. Am I wasting money on anything? Something important missing?

First off, I'm pretty sure you don't need to build a new computer. It sounds like you have a weird problem with either your graphics card or your monitor.

If you must build a new computer, newegg.com is great. Also, send me your old computer it's way better than mine

I think you should think seriously about going to a 1366 cpu.

I also doubt you need a PSU that powerful unless you plan to overclock both your CPU and your graphics cards. 850 - 900W should do the trick.

Also, although I'm not allowed to advertise here, if you are in Sydney, PM me. I run a small IT business and can give you good prices.

I hope not, I'm running it on a brand new 32" Sony Bravia. This new one runs at 1920x1080 whereas the old one ran at a much lower res. I just assumed the computer couldn't handle the higher res...?

Why not turn on Vsync? That stops screen tearing. Also, doesn't screen tearing occur when you're updating too fast for your monitor? I don't think upgrading would fix that.

try enabling V-Sync while playing games it causes some lag but stops screen ripping...

I have been running that on. I've only begun to notice it in newer games (Metro 2033, Stalker: Call of Pripyat and a couple others).

Why are you upgrading, your specs seem just fine from my standpoint... I wish I had money like that to spend...

But I guess adding another card for xfire couldn't hurt. Your CPU is just fine, I honestly wouldn't recommend upgrading that.

Besides that... SSD's are in my opinion a complete waste of money, 12 times the price per gig for increased performance in like... 3 games total.

Just buy a new monitor and graphics card. Seriously. The more I look at this the less I believe upgrading is a good use of money.
