I like simulations. Building things, as much as destroying things. Evil Genius, for instance, is one of my favorite games of all time-- minions, collecting, building, constructing, this is what im into.

I like combat too, because after building things, you want to unleash it against your enemies.

The latest iteration of simcity doesn't seem like its going to be what im into, so I was wondering what gems of simulation style games I might have missed over the years. I want something to dump some time into!

I'm trying to track down either a copy of Dungeon Keeper or it's sequel. It sounds like you may be interesting in joining my noble quest.

You also might enjoy Mech games like Front Mission. Where you can outfit your mechs and direct them in turn-based strategy warfare. That's good fun, but it's for the SNES and DS. I think the series also continued on the PlayStation.

Hurray for DK2.

Nothing like building your Dungeon, warding off heroes, and mercilessly beating your minion.

And then the dancing begins!

Of course, there's also Black & White, its sequel, and Spore, which all merge city building and light combat.

Yeah. That's a demo.

I'm waiting for it to either hit Good Old Games or turn up at a local store.

Do you know where I could get the black and white games for cheap (not online)?

Man I loved Zoo Tycoon, I set up a park filled with the most dangerous predators around (from t-rex's to sharks) and put on giant cage in the middle full of penguins. Then when the park was full of people, I put an electrified fence over the door way and let the penguins loose. They proceeded to open up all the other cages and murder all the other animals in the zoo (yes even the raptors). At the end of the day, the only survivors were a mass of penguins who had destroyed the electrified fence (a fence used to keep dinosaurs in mind you) and were leaving the park to further spread their destruction.

Try Best Buy or GameSpot? It's a fairly old game so you should be able to get it at a fairly cheap price. They're not particularly good in terms of the city building or combat aspects, but the game does have its charm.

Wait, the penguins would win in all the fights? Now I want an army of murderous, intelligent penguins.

You're not paying for it, you're paying for the download service, and it's the demo anyways.

I am just really looking for a game to experiment in and that one looked well enough to me. Also it seemed to do better than Spore in that aspect, though that isn't saying much.

Yeah, I saw a trio of them tear a shark apart. Like they jumped into the tank and murdered it. It was probably the greatest thing I have ever seen.

You might also be interested in "Majesty: The fantasy kingdom sim." You build the buildings, collect taxes and stuff, and recruit the Heroic types, but you don't actually get control of the units. They'll rush off and defend your town (Or run away if they are to cowardly) and you can set bounties on the monsters that roam the lands, and they'll just try and amass gold and magic weapons. Its really a great game, especially with the expansion. Plus, they're finishing up the sequel in the fall, so if you like it, there will be another to play then. :D

Not really. Just because money leaves your hands doesn't mean it's a legitimate method of purchase. I could go to the Pacific Mall and pay some pirate shop $4 for Deep Impact, but it doesn't mean that my money's going to the film makers.

Anyway, FilePlanet should just have demos and mods of commercial games, as its run by the same company as IGN and Direct 2 Drive.

Sim City 3000 Unlimited was the first game I ever bought.
I played the deuce out of that CD until it broke a couple years ago.

I haven't a damn clue on what to classify it as, but LEGO Rock Raiders is a game you might want to look into.
I think it's an RTS, but there's a lot of building, resource gathering, and exploration involved.

EDIT: Here's a wiki covering it.

I absolutely ADORE Pharah and Cleopatra (the expansion pack) and its Greek version Caesar 3. The campaigns gets very difficult towards the end as well. They take a very very long time to finish.
