As the title says, I am building a new computer for myself. This is my first time so I would like some input on my choices, information on if I can make it better for less, and suggestions for different parts if they're needed. Like I said, I'm a noob at this so if something won't work with something else, I probably won't have noticed it.

I want the computer to be able to play FPS's smoothly and consistently, I may not use it for gaming that much, but I would like it to be able to run FPS's well, even if it won't be running them that much.

Lastly before the list, I neglected to look for a case or power supply in case this setup wouldn't work, or could easily be improved, or whatever. So if you think the setup will work, I would be grateful if you could give me a recommendation for a case or a power supply.

Okay, here are the lists:
Processor:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808]

Motherboard:
ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366]

Memory Sticks:
OCZ Gold 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1333LV4G [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227540]

Video Card:

Processor:

Motherboard:
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131365]

Memory Sticks:
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9S-4GBRL [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231310]

Video Card:

Again, please tell me if it will work, if I can improve it for cheap or less, if it will do what I want it to do, and please recommend a case or a good power supply. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, $950 is my budget. Thanks to QCX for reminding me.

Now I actually have a degree in Hardware engineering and have worked for several years in the It industry and am one of those idiots that spends countless hours building monsterous rigs and overclocking the shit out of them.

So my opinion comes from knowledge and experience.

Ok so you want to play FPS game as smooth as possible. Why would you go with a AMD processor and a 128-bit graphics card.

Its been known for sometime that AMD have a lot of hang ups when it comes to processing in large amount and lack the hyper-threading that is required by most new DX11 games. Trust me when I say you will have nothing but problems and hangs with playing a fast paced game like say, bad company 2 or *sigh* modern warfare 2. Although AMD claim to be made for gaming, they are literally the retarded step child of Intel. Not only that, but your buying old tech, which will be made redundant in the next 12-18 months. Spend a bit more and get something that will last.

Your motherboard has inbuilt HDMI...why do you require that when your going to be using a graphics card....but then again why AMD....I know its cheaper, but for a bloody good reason.

As for the GPU, well there's nothing wrong with ATi. But look at the specs, look at the forms of graphical processing you are going to be doing and what kind of game you want to play. They are intense games with lots of lighting, smoke and shadows. So using a card that has 128-bit core, is going to be lacking. Yes I can see it says 1GB, but that doesn't mean its got a 1000-bit processor. It actually means it has 1gig of bandwidth.

A suggestion;

When building a PC you really need to do your research first. Look at what your going to be using it for and build around that, rather then just looking parts and going "that looks cool".

I would continue to give you a parts list that I recommend, however I don't know your budget.

Budget: Its a big part of building a PC. Know how much you are willing to spend on your new rig and stick to it. Sure sometimes you might have to give in and pay a bit more or less, but that's why you shop around for the best prices.

So that's all I will say. I will keep an eye on the thread if you have any questions.

Don't get that RAM. You'll need 2 x 2gb sticks to work with that motherboard, and OCZ is overpriced.
Could you point out to me what values tell you that they won't work together so I won't make the same mistake again?

First off, your questions about why. I'm a noob. This is my first time attempting to build a computer and I did not do all the necessary research. I tried to get as much information as I could, but I obviously missed some important parts.

Second off, sorry about forgetting to put the budget up, kind of an important thing for me to forget, but thanks for reminding me. I'm going to spend $950 max on this computer.

Thanks to both of you.

Youre better off going to a dedicated computer forum rather than the escapist. I cant suggest http://www.trubritarforums.com/forum/ as a very good site that I am a member on. I would help you but I am too busy right now.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try it out.
