So I've been trying to get to play Bulletstorm through the internet. Its multiplayer is no the best from what I can see, being closer to a console scheme than a PC game. However, I've always have had problems while trying to play over the 'net, so I'd like to ask you fellow Escapists for a little advice.
1- I'm using Comodo Firewall in addition to Avast! over the regular Windows 7 firewall. While it doesn't give me much trouble, I've found it to be pretty restrictive and I'm not sure if it might hamper my multiplayer experience much. I've noticed Comodo has recently blocked many connections from my own router (192.168.0.1:1952) and I don't know if it may mean it's willingly blocking off incoming connections. Don't know if they are harmful tough.
2- It's not just my actual router-ISP-game combination though, I've been trying to play BFBC2 on multiplayer on a totally different place too, and although the connection was a third of what I have now (100kbps versus 300kbps) the experience was quite similar. Ping wouldn't go lower than 150ms, shooting through the roof in moments (999ms) on low-ping servers, both on my old place and now.
3- Someone willing to explain how to get my latence down? I know it's not the same as bandwith, but I don't know what could affect it
4- We've been having problems with our DSL router too, it seems like it "chokes up" if there are many incoming connections. Only P2P that gets to work (barely) on it is Vuze with that speed regulator plugin thingy, and it seems to choke on MP games to. Could be there a plausible connection? -heh... "connection". It seems to have improved after disabling all the Router's security measures except for the buffer overflow control and some connection checker feature.
5- Last but not least, I'm in Europe. Spain, to be precise. I'd connect to European servers if that'd be possible but BS's matchmaking won't allow it, so I guess I'll have to bypass that.
Anyway, suggestions? Pretty please?
