So today, this came out:

It reminded me of what I had to deal with growing up, teachers turning a blind eye and/or encoraging others to bully me. Now one day I plan to be a parent and I KNOW that it'll happen to him/her. So what do you, Escapits, should be the best way to deal with these people?

*Note: I want this to be also for anyone on here who is or is going to be a parent that needs advice on this.

Deal with it as it comes?

I never got bullied, really. Some teasing here and there, but everybody gets that. Honestly, if you can't handle being called retarded without bursting into tears, you've got bigger problems than people teasing you.

Physical bullying is more serious, of course. There's really no call to go all helicopter parent and be all paranoid about everything, but make sure your kid knows to tell somebody if anything does happen.

I honestly doubt you'll need to get yourself too worked up about it, though. Kids will be kids, and they'll probably be fine.

Teachers should at the very least bring it to the attention of the counselors that severe bullying is going on. Listen theres a big different between having some kid who clearly didn't put any effort into his speech (aka wrote it 2 hours before saying it) and shouting "Sit down clown!" or "You suck!". Hell we have flat out made fun of each other all in high school. But it was all things that we knew really wasn't going to hurt that person. Plus we already were friends... or at least good classmates.

Its an entire different story when you push a kid on the ground laugh and say "Look at the ****** on his knees."
Then the gay boy kills himself and the school gets in a heated media story before some a-hole steals a baby or something and everyone forgets it even happened.

There is a lot of shit that goes in schools that would get an adult sued for harassment in the work environment. If we are trying to teach our children to become part of the working class then why on earth are we not teaching them the fundamental rule that all companies adhere by because of the dreaded "sue" word.

-shakes head- I really do believe half my issues with letting anyone get close to me loving wise is in direct result of all the bullying I took as a child. I am so lucky to have an understanding wife who patiently waited for me to open up to her on my own. Not many people have the same luck.
