Bumping your own thread

Hello fellow Escapians.

I recently made a new thread, but unfortunatly I posted it during the slow off hours of the day.
As a consequence it got no replies, and faded into obscurity.

Of course this may be because it was a poor thread, but I fear that it may be because it was posted during the off hours of the day.

My question is this:
Is it ok to bump your own thread to get it noticed?

Well, as long as you bump it with a relevant point, not saying Bump, then sure it's fine.

Calumon: You can bump anything you want with that kitty! ^^

Only if you do it very, very carefully and extremely rarely.

And best post that bump as something with actual content, an addendum to the OP or so forth.

Just 'Bumping this' or a message to that effect will draw the ire of fellow Escapists, as well as the attention of the BanHammer.

Why not just copy & paste it again? Restart the thread again? If it doesn't get any responses again you may want to rethink the subject matter or subject line to draw more attention.

Its against the rules to bump, but I guess its ok if your bump has content in it.

Oddly enough I used to bump my threads back when I was a wee paperboy and never got in trouble for it. Of course now I don't do it.

Why does that vaguely sound like innuendo, even if it's coming from a schizophrenic figment of your imagination?
I never bump by the way, but I do bump map.

I will post on one of my threads if it is a relevant post. If it adds to what is there, etc.etc. and I normally only do it once. And never long after the thread is dead. I get an average of 6-8 pages on most anyway, so that's enough for me.

I don't have a problem with it unless it is 10 minutes after it was posted, or the bump has no relevant content other than "bump".

I've had to do it a few times simply because my thread was overlooked. It happens from time to time.

If you really want to bump it because you think it's worthwhile, pretend you've double-posted and then edit the second with more content.

Of course I know that Calumon is a Digimon, I was implying that his imaginary schizophrenic friend is materialised in the form of Calumon.
He could be either mentally insane or very devoted to uphold his image.
I'll put Freud on the case right away!

I've never even contemplated bumping a thread I've created, but then again I've created precisely 8 and all of them were in the User Reviews section and not particularly intended to incite discussion in the first place. Which I suppose is good, because they certainly didn't - the most replies any of my threads has received was a whopping 9, and 3 of those were just me responding back to people.

If I was actually trying to start discussions I think my thread's track records would be immensely disheartening.

To add to the discussion:

The thread is 2 days old now, and it has recieved no replies as of yet.
It only has 25 views, so that is hardly surprising.

And, it is about football (Non American version).

Also, thanks for the replies.

I would say that you can bump your own thread once, and only after a 24 hour period.
