Burnt out on zombies

There's no way to say this without sounding like a hipster. All I can do is assure you all that I'm NOT and that that's NOT where I'm coming from with this.

I was big into the whole zombie "thing" a few years before it was really popular. My friends and I would often play zombie-related games, watch zombie movies, and have discussions about "what would we do in a zombie apocalypse?" A few years passed, and just about everyone and their brother started doing this too.

Not that I minded this. It was actually exciting at first because there was a much bigger pool of people to geek out with about zombie stuff.

But then I started to get tired of it. Around the time Left 4 Dead 2 was floating around, I realized I was getting over my own personal zombie craze. And now? I don't hate the zombie craze or wish that it would go away, I'm just indifferent about it. Now, when I see something zombie-related my brain automatically goes to a place of "Oh... It's YOU again..." and I disengage.

I realized this not long ago when a friend of mine tried to get me into "The Walking Dead." Based on what I saw, it seems like a great show, and I wish I could get into it, but I've already reached my zombie saturation point. When stuff about Dead Island started being released, the game didn't even register as a blip on my radar.

So I ask you fellow escapists, where do you stand on the zombie thing, in gaming and otherwise? Is it still fun and exciting to you? Or are you burnt out like me?

EDIT: Just in case it's not clear from the above, I'm not trying to hate on the zombie genre or hate on people who are into the zombie genre. Quite the contrary, I WISH I still found zombies exciting, so if you do find the genre exciting, I'm actually kinda jealous of you. I only made this post to discuss with other escapists where they are in their own personal zombie craze (or lack thereof).

I agree with Yahtzee.

"Enough with the fuckin' zombies already!"

I am enjoying The Walking Dead, but aside from that, I'm pretty much over the zombies thing. Then again, I never really got into it to begin with. All those zombie games are FPS or add-ons in games I didn't even care about anyway so I just withdraw much like you.

What exactly was "whiny" about my post? I made it quite clear that...

...and I wanted to know where other escapists stood.

This thread is both new and interesting.
It is.

Lately, all I've been seeing were Skyrim threads. So yes, it's both new and refreshing.

Yay, more zombie threads! Because we totally haven't seen any of them before!

OT: Don't care, as long as they are done well.

Does a thread have to be new and ground-breaking to be worthwhile? I mostly made this thread for myself in the interest of getting some conversation-style feedback. If you're not even going to address the OT, why bother posting anything at all?

Trolls.

You may well be missing out, Walking Dead isn't really about zombies. And is also awesome ;)

I'm sorry I can't comment as zombies are not a type of media, they are a element of a story. They do not make a complete story because you need things like plot and characters to do that. I don't care how rock stupid you are "there's a zombie" is about all you can say from just zombies and nothing else as your media.

I still enjoy zombies but then again I never went full on zombie crazy. I don't even see that much zombie stuff out there that is good. I am into Walking Dead, I play Zombies on black ops with some friends here and there, and I am waiting for Dead State. Dead Island looks interesting but the gameplay is what has held me off from playing it. Occasionally, I find myself thinking about picking up Resident Evil 5 or something but I never have. I played Resident Evil 1 & 2 back in their day and grew bored of it. L4D seems interesting but only as a good co-op game and it needs to be on PS3 for me to have anyone to really play with. When PS3 already offers good co-op games there is no need to chase one down.

Zombies I don't see much of and I really like zombies for some weird reason. However, even though I like zombies, I don't seek them out. I seek out quality in general. I could care less what the protagonist is so long as it is good. Right now, I see more post-apocalyptic stuff getting hammed up pretty big as an indifferent spectator.

I don't see a "zombie craze" going on. I am seeing zombies simply getting attention. It is nowhere near the medieval fantasy craze of the 90s. That was a craze.

Wait what?
Have you seen it? If you have and you think it's about zombies you're seriously missing the point.

Hell even Romeo says his films were about change.
