There's no way to say this without sounding like a hipster. All I can do is assure you all that I'm NOT and that that's NOT where I'm coming from with this.
I was big into the whole zombie "thing" a few years before it was really popular. My friends and I would often play zombie-related games, watch zombie movies, and have discussions about "what would we do in a zombie apocalypse?" A few years passed, and just about everyone and their brother started doing this too.
Not that I minded this. It was actually exciting at first because there was a much bigger pool of people to geek out with about zombie stuff.
But then I started to get tired of it. Around the time Left 4 Dead 2 was floating around, I realized I was getting over my own personal zombie craze. And now? I don't hate the zombie craze or wish that it would go away, I'm just indifferent about it. Now, when I see something zombie-related my brain automatically goes to a place of "Oh... It's YOU again..." and I disengage.
I realized this not long ago when a friend of mine tried to get me into "The Walking Dead." Based on what I saw, it seems like a great show, and I wish I could get into it, but I've already reached my zombie saturation point. When stuff about Dead Island started being released, the game didn't even register as a blip on my radar.
So I ask you fellow escapists, where do you stand on the zombie thing, in gaming and otherwise? Is it still fun and exciting to you? Or are you burnt out like me?
EDIT: Just in case it's not clear from the above, I'm not trying to hate on the zombie genre or hate on people who are into the zombie genre. Quite the contrary, I WISH I still found zombies exciting, so if you do find the genre exciting, I'm actually kinda jealous of you. I only made this post to discuss with other escapists where they are in their own personal zombie craze (or lack thereof).
