first and foremost, apologies if this topic has already been touched on.

But to the main event:

We all love video games right? i mean were on the escapist, so thats a default yes. im sure youve all had your games that have a feature or two that are either fantastic, or just touch in the right places enough to keep you enjoying them.

so my idea and questions are:

Whats your 5 favourite game features, and in which games? (doesnt have to be top 5)

What 5 game features [or more](that are currently in one game or another) would you love to combine into one game?

And what would you NAME that game?

EG:
Fav Features
1.All Points Bulletin character customisation
2.Portals Portal gun and great puzzles
3.Spliscreen Co-op Campaign (whatever games xD)
4.Minecrafts world generation and size.
5.Halos Vehicle Physics.

Blending:
1.APB Customisation
2.Halos Vehicle Physics
3.Splitscreen
4.Red Factions destructible terrain (and/or buildings too)
5.the Source/Ojbox engines ease of Moddibility :)

And it will be called:
Shit goes boom (i have no clue xD)

What the... I don't even...

In summary; wouldn't work. A feature from one game is balanced within the context of that game's mechanics. Copy-pasting it into a completely different game wouldn't necessarily result in a better game.

Mind you, there have been a few times where I've been playing an otherwise good game, only to be annoyed by one or two missing features that COULD easily have been included. I remember being royally pissed off that Halo 2 couldn't be played co-op over network, for example, and currently I feel Gears 3 would be improved by allowing players to join Horde matches in-session by filling an empty player slot.

well i was just asking what features you liked, not necessarily if theyd even work in anything else. and for the blending i didnt mean the "game" contained ONLY those features, im just saying what if a game HAD all those features.

1) Shooting stuff
2) Exploring after I've shot everything
3) Good stories
4) Good bosses
5) Good graphics (I like pretty stuff, sue me)

Were those features to all blend into one game, I would call it Metroid Prime

Wait a minute... [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid_Prime]

Maybe that's why I like that game so, so much?
It's nice when you find a game which is everything you've ever wanted in a game.

Anyway, er...

1) Mini-sandbox combat (Halo)
2) Amazing sci-fi background (Mass Effect)
3) Beauty (Homeworld)
4) Brilliant atmosphere (HL2/Portal)
5) Very fun team-based tactical multiplayer w/ destructible terrain (BC2)

I would call it Steve. And we would be happy together forever.

Steve sounds like a nice fellow.

1. Great Atmosphere (Metro 2033)
2. Survival Horror (Amnesia: The Dark Descent/Penumbra)
3. Easily Modded (STALKER/Half-Life 2)
4. Great Sound Quality (Condemned)
5. Well Optimized

And I would call it "Nope: The Game".

OK, after a bit more thought: I'd like a game that includes great physics without building the entire friggin' game around it.

So, say the game was an FPS like Halo or Gears, with the same kind of gameplay - but, with water physics on par with Hydrophobia, building damage from Red Faction Guerrila, and land deformation from Fracture. These additional physics would just be there - the game wouldn't shove them in your face every five minutes to remind you how cool they are, in fact you could quite happily ignore them and play through the game. BUT, if you wanted to, you actually COULD spend a disproportionte amount of time and effort to, say, divert a stream by piling debris in it, or slowly drill through enemy fortifications with bullets, or so on.

The technology exists. Is it too much to have it used cleverly yet subtly, rather than flogging the one-trick physics pony to death?
