So he did 300... and that's about it.

Ugh... I forgot Gamer is a movie that exists. Screw that.

Mind doing one of these on Cameron Diaz so we can point out when her career went from "Top gross female star" to "Career suicide"? She was hot and an above-average actress. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? Is this Justin Timberlake's fault?

To be honest, the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the title was "Does this man deserve an article?"

I mean, he's mostly another hunky-action-type actor who's starred mostly in mediocre-at-best (300 was okay though) action movies, smaller roles in decent ones and a few exceptions here and there. One of many, to be fair. Is he even really worth mentioning? He seems incredibly run-of-the-mill.

"Will he get that miracle? Does he deserve it? What are your thoughts on Gerard Butler as an actor?"
-Who knows!
-Eh, why not? He seems like a nice person!
-300 and Gamer where VERY good performances. The rest I didn't care to go see. But the "... has fallen" movies are liked by Cecil from GoodBadFlicks, so I guess I will check them out.

On the article; wow, didn't know he had so many bombs! I saw him on posters/trailers from time to time, thinking he was doing quite well!

He certainly does not have a great range as an actor, but then again, neither does Keanu Reeves, and we know by now that, so long as Keanu is put in a role that suits him, he can be just about the best at what he does.

Are Butler's problems just a product of repeated miscasting (I mean he clearly cannot do any accent other than Scottish, so people should just stop trying to make him)? I dunno yet, but he's been miscast A LOT.

Despite all of the above though, there is something strangely likeable about him, even if I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's that, while he's undeniably handsome, there's always something a little bit grubby about him, as opposed to so many Hollywood stars that either come across as too clean and preening, or more of the 'body-builder attempting to act' of the 80's model. As an action star, he comes across as more relatable than many, kind of like a back in his prime Bruce Willis, except Bruce Willis got to be in far more good movies.

Yeah, I agree, he isnt very good but has charm and charisma meaning that I can watch one of his movies even if he is the focus of it.
And yeah, he does fine when doing his thing (300 being a good example)

Liked 300 and law abiding citizen, bounty hunter was just another romcom (aka was ok, I guess ... they are all the same anyway) and gamer was again ok, I guess and the same goes for which ever "white house gets fucked up" he was in.

I think he could be one of the big names, like Bruce willis, Samuel L Jackson etc but I think he needs to put off these dumb ass films. He is acting like he needs the work and is just taking anything to make his big break. Rather than turning things down and demanding better roles.

I like 300, and RockNRolla is easily in my top favourite 20 films. I thought Butler's character was great in that.

I think he keeps being miscast. He should be James Bond.

Also - he needs more roles that star his abs, not just his face.

Woah woah woah, there's an Attila the Hun movie out there that not only has Gerard Butler as the main character but also features Tim Curry. Why the hell haven't I seen this film?

On the other hand I have seen Timelines, which is only fun if you're a bunch of archaeologists and historians laughing at how inept everything is and how they're trying so hard to take seriously the idea of being able to fax people through time (yes, really)

To me, Gerard Butler will always be the Phantom of the Opera... *swoons* He really should get more singing roles... *sighs*

Other than that, I'm both surprised and not surprised at the movies I apparently know that he's in...

Rock'n'Rolla was a great film and all the films that have failed weren't because of Gerard Butler. While I wouldn't call him Oscar worthy I wouldn't call him a bad actor. He's got the chops.

Gerard Butler is great in a very specific type of role; an intense, troubled action hero. He simply hasn't found enough good movies where he can showcase that. I mean, I'm having a really hard time picturing any other actor in the role of Leonidas.

In my hypothetical casting of a Game of Thrones prequel season, he plays a young Robert Baratheon. Intensely charismatic, fearsome on the battlefield, clueless in politics.
