Part 1: the mini rant

This is a form of game control I cannot stand, and yet allot of the games I enjoy contain it (irony). I just can't deal with such rapid hand movements.

Things like this don't really bother me, but I got the new Naruto game the other day and it is used so much in it. I feel kinda cheated after going through a major boss battle to be let down because of something like that (esspecially when I get ridiculously close to getting it right).

Part 2: Help!

So are there any techniques I am just not getting? Are there any alternate methods that don't cripple my fingers? If so please share them with me and the rest of the world (we don't keep secrets here :p ).

Part 3: Opinion

Finally whats your opinion on button bashing in games?

I would just like to clarify that this is part of a quick time event not combat, I know how to perform combos in game and such the the button mashing quick time events keep tripping me up

This is why I loved Mortal Kombat Deception (and soul caliber series) You have combos. Don't do the combo right, your character flinches and you leave yourself vulnerable. BUtton mashers don't win in Soul Calibur

firstly, I always considered button mashing to be randomly mashing buttons due to lack of skill or just plain stupidity. Secondly, a lot of those games really just require a butt load of training with any given character. I recommend practicing more. that or play a different game.

So what you want is help at not button mashing in fighters?

Well, I can try and help there.

First, find out what moves you want to do, or have trouble with, and then go into training mode and just work on execution.

So, say the move is down, down right, forward and then punch..keep practicing that motion until you can do it almost flawlessly or at least maybe, 10 times in a row with out flaw. Then move onto the harder moves. Also, try and learn your character's normals(your normal moves with the buttons)...so let's say you are Naruto, maybe his crouching hard punch might be a punch upwards, what could that be used for?? Anti-air. You want to figure out what all of your moves do and us them accordingly..once you know them well enough, and can keep doing them, muscle memory should solve the rest of the button mashing problem

I know, the mashing comes in mainly with quick time events though and it stops the story

I couldn't agree more. Most games where button mashing is popular have some kind of training mode designed for you to develop skill with the various combos. If not, set time and health to infinite and wail on an enemy until you figure stuff out. Also, don't bind yourself to a specific character. I made that mistake in Super Smash Bros. until I realized that I was actually better with Fox's combos than with Link.

I've always been under the impression licensed fighting games. naruto, dragon ball. Cater to the more casual mashing style.

The exception being the mvc series.

I played one of the early dbz games, then when burst limit came out I was willing to give it a shot. New console generation, new console, game not shit? I was quickly reminded of the old ps2 game I played and its status as garbage.

Let me also say I would love to get my hands on a solid capable fighter based upon dbz. I don't see that happening.
