I have no idea where to go or what to do. I REALLY need help.

I can't really help much, but I recommend that you cover it in stickers of flames, to make it look like it's running faster. :p

That should answer any possible questions you have.

And 2k dollars? That's insane man, that'll buy you a gaming computer for the next ten years...

On Google's advice, I found...

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/how-to-tech/build-a-computer.htm
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/the-geek-blog/building-a-new-computer-part-1-choosing-hardware/
http://lifehacker.com/5151369/the-first+timers-guide-to-building-a-computer-from-scratch

Hopefully this should suffice.

If you've got that amount of money I'd recommend getting one built for you by one of the various companies around. It does cost more than making it yourself but it's a lot less hassle plus you get a guarantee which is always nice.

Make sure you get a solid state capacitor motherboard (those things will last you ages, unless of course a fucking power surge fries both your power supply and motherboard... >.<)
A Decent mid-range/affordable videocard would be the Nvidia Series 9800 GT.
Very nice graphics/affordable price. Quad core is obviously a no brainer. I myself am a fan of Intel, but if you like AMD, they also develop some pretty sweet tech too.
Personally, as Windows XP only allows you 3 gb of RAM, and Vista is a ram hog, but a pos OS (operating system). If I were you, I'd hold out until Windows 7 gets ironed out. It can run both 32 and 64 bit programs (depending on your preference). What this all means, is you will have an easier time trying to get System Shock 2 to run on Windows 7, than you would on Vista.
Try to imagine how much hard drive space you think you'll need, and then double it.
1 Tb is roughly about $300 these days, from what I've seen.
Bide your time for a few months. If you can hold out, you won't regret it.

I hope that helps. Happy rig building.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!

You can build a computer better than any top of the line at the same or less cost. Plenty of people have made better (and prettier) computers, and with that budget you shouldn't fall for a computer maker's corporate game.

First tip: don't listen to all the trolls who will inevitably come in the thread and tell you they put together a top of the range gaming PC for $500.
How is that trolling? It's the truth. With $2000, you aren't getting a top of the line PC, you're getting a supercomputer with a a theater level speaker system.

Use that guide, OP. I found it very helpful. It's a but out of date now but the computer listed there under highend will last you very long time.

wow thats a nice budget :) i wish i had enough to put something together like that.

i would go with a coolermaster cosmos for the case, a core i7 920, an evga e758-a1, 6gb ddr3 trichannel, 850 watt power supply, maybe dual gtx 285's, if your budget holds up get 3. also get a nice big hard drive, 1-2 tb, and then a small ssd for your os. hdd speed doesnt matter too much for gaming, it just improves load times. as long as you can get a 7200 rpm drive you will be fine, going to 10k or ssd will cost a huge amount more, and while they are very fast you wont have a huge problem with just a 7k speed.

edit:
try newegg.com for parts

also pcgamer has a great guide for building your own: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/the-2008-pc-builders-bible/a-20080918153014865039/p-26

at 2k he shouldnt get a 9800gt. it should be ultra high end expecially for gaming where it focuses on the gpu. it should be at least a 4870x2. also, 1tb drives run about 75 bucks at newegg.

I was coming up with an affordable one that he could buy a few games with too.
Also, 1Tb here is like $250. I'm sorry I don't live In America.
