I have recently got some money and want to finally invest in a gaming PC. I have seen one with these specifications for £500:
Processor:
AMD Athlon II X2
Memory (RAM):
4 GB
Storage Capacity (hard drive):
1 TB
Operating system:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Shared graphics:
ATI Radeon HD 4270 1.87 GB

Now as I have never bought a PC solely for gaming I want to see your views on whether or not I should get it, and whether you think this will be able to run current games.

I would also like to add that building a PC is not an option for me.

It's one of the cheapest I've seen though, all the others are nearly double the price. That's why I wanted to know if it is good enough

CPU is a bit outdated but should be fine. However, the 4270 seems to be a notebook GPU. Which is not advisable.

Would you suggest this:
* Processor: Intel Core i5
* Memory (RAM): 4 GB
* Storage Capacity (hard drive): 750 GB
* Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
* Dedicated graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5450 512 MB
for £600 instead?

Depends on which i5. And it should at least be a 6950 for that money, but GPUs are generally the most underpowered part of prebuilts.

Which is ironic, considering they're meant to be gaming machines.

Not worth it.

I looked around a bit and found one [http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Gladiator/Gladiator+VISION+HD+Gaming+PC+?productId=44208] that's not so bad.

You're paying about a 200 pound premium but whatever.
