Buying Anime

So, I've never actually bought any anime DVD's before (with the exception of anime movies), as I usually just watch it online. But I've come across a series that I love to the point of obsession, and I'd very much like to own it on DVD.

The problem is, everywhere I looked, they were either obvious bootlegs, or ridiculously expensive imports.
Like, ?50 for a disc containing 2-3 episodes expensive.

So my question is, where (if anywhere) do you guys buy your anime?

EDIT: I'm talking online shops here - I live in Ireland, so buying anything other than extremely popular anime in shops is nigh-on impossible.

EDIT2: The anime I'm looking for is Ookiku Furikabutte (or Big Windup, but I'm hoping to avoid dubs).

Anime is expensive, basically ebay is your best bet.

If you're really desperate, look on Amazon Japan, and they will most likely have it. Expect to pay a lot however, Japan is hella expensive.
Yeah I looked on Amazon Japan I think, and they were all a bit expensive.
What's Forbidden Planet?

And the series I'm talking about is Ookiku Furikabutte.

Archonia.com is belgium site I think and has a lot of series. Expect to play like 20-30 euros for around 4 episodes though. Also they don't sell (subbed) dvd's for the european regions, so be carefull of that.

Amazon and play.com, although some high street big music+game stores will have their own anime dvd section if you're lucky.
I used to buy bootleg boxset collections from ebay but found they were poor quality such as lipsyncs way out of line and some unintentional skipping. If they're all region and cram an entire series into 4 or 5 discs then it's bootleg.

If an anime is too expensive on the day of release, wait a few weeks and the price can tumble sometimes. Or better yet, wait for all episodes to come out on dvd and then wait for the "complete boxset collection" to come out, wait and then again drop in price

Amazon.com, ALWAYS check there. I just bought 100$ of stuff from them last night, and for that 100, I got 6 complete series box sets and half of another series.

Thats cheaper than amazon, like I said, I would just check ebay.

EDIT: It says its proper, and they accept returns, so just complain if it's not, if not you will be forking out alot of money :S

When I've finished my on going quest to see every anime episode ever made that I can find on the internet I plan on downloading them and putting them on disk myself. You might as well just do this with some of the older animes but I suggest buying the expensive ones or waiting for them to get cheaper for the newer ones. Do your best to support the industry or it'll end up going before you know it.

Some anime I can only find existing on very very old Dvd's anyway though such as Grander musashi. Which by the way if anybody can find me please send me a link. I don't care how I get it I just wanna watch it.

I found that earlier, but I thought 13 episodes on a single disk was a bit suspicious.
Any idea if it's a pirate or not?

Forbidden Planet is essentially a giant cult megastore, with manga, comic books, action figures and anime. They normally have a fairly decent range of stuff, but it'll all be Region 2, so you might not get a box set. They're normally cheaper than a lot of places though. Here's a link [http://forbiddenplanet.com/]
Unfortunately no luck there this time, but I'll bookmark it in case I want anything in the future.
Thanks!

Most of the stuff I get is available at the HMV in manchester centre or Trafford Center and if not I go to Forbidden Planet :D I think HMV are also confused on the prices, since I saw both Bleach and (I think) Fullmetal Alchemist season 1 part 1 both for £25, yet the FULL season 1 was £15. I was like okayyy. . . Awesome!!

Ah hell. The good news is that if there's a Region 1 release then a Region 2 will hopefully follow sometime soon, which you can maybe pick up later down the road.

Anyway, good luck with your search, and if I come across anything else I'll let you know :)
I can only hope.
Thanks again! :D

Iv got a good store in my local mall that has a huge selection of Anime.

As for online, iv never bought Anime online before, though i would think Amazon.com would be one of the best places to look.
Also websites run by the company that Dubs the Anime are good places to check out.

I get some of my anime from anime-on-line.
If you shop around, you can get some very nice deals, (mostly on the older stuff though).

The Hut is suprisingly competative in that area as well.

Then again, I'm no expert really...

(I definately wouldn't reccomend HMV though, they seriously overprice stuff, (I once saw a Noein boxset I already bought of the net for like 12 quid, selling for £50! XD))

EDIT: actually this advice might not be all that helpful though, depending on whether these stores deliver at fair prices.

I will also add that if you are clever, you can sometimes get whole sets cheaper individually than actually buying a complete boxset!

(I definately did when I hunted down all of Love Hina! :D)
