I refuse to buy games used, period.

I think it's the whole "trusting another human being to not fuck you over" bit I have trouble with.
I tried, now I have the same trouble with that bit too.

I've never once had a problem with ebay...i bought fallout 3, rock band (with all the instruments), unreal tournament 3, guitar hero 3(with guitar), and GHWT and not a single one of them had a flaw...just check the seller's feedback and make sure they don't say "as is" in the description and it should be fine.

Usually i'd avoid the chinese dealers and go for someone whos just selling a game they had or bought to sell. Read the description and make sure it's not in engrish then just look at their feedback and whether or not their a preffered seller.

The only things I buy on Ebay are pocket watches. Don't believe people about games on Ebay, ever.

Ebay is fine to use in my opinion. You just have to be careful. Look at item descriptions carefully and I don't recommend buying from anyone whose rating is lower than 98%. Always shoot for 100% if you can. And if you're choosing to buy from a big or small seller there are risks for both. Large sellers can get their orders backed up and yours can get lost, especially around holidays. Smaller sellers use less costly shipping and your item might take longer to get to you. I only ever had one incident with a game I bought, and if that happens sellers will usually work with you so their feedback doesn't get mucked up. Above all, read carefully and ask questions.

I try not to use ebay unless I really need to. And in any case, not for games. If you really want to save money, too bad. Or be a "responsible law-abiding citizen" and buy it like everyone else.
Fix'd that for you. Don't endorse piracy.

Why don't you want to use ebay?

I buy games on eBay. There is a lot of crap out there, but as long as you're careful it's a very small risk. Only buy from sellers with a good reputation, and try to avoid Asian sellers if you can.

I buy games from a shop in Melbourne that also operates on eBay, they sell new games in the hundreds so I can almost always find what I'm looking for, and I typically get things for $20-30 less than retail price, even after postage.

I don't recommend buying used games on eBay, though, especially not if it's multiplayer, the chances that the CD key is compromised are very high.
True if they're computer games, but if the game is for consoles there is no reason not to buy used.

So the other day a friend of mine told me ebay is a great way to get games for cheap. I've done this once before when God of War came out, and the disc did not work. Also a lot of the ones coming out of the china area are extremely cheap(like 50% off) that says they are factory sealed and brand new, could they be selling us bootlegged copies? Just wanted to get the general escapist public opinion on this, thanks!
Some eBay stores, especially in Asia, mainly sell bootleg copies of games. It's usually pretty obvious: if the seller has many copies of the same game, all allegedly "brand new", and they're very cheap, they're probably pirated.

Most of the time, buying from eBay is safe and cheap. Sellers don't want to sell faulty products, because you can give them negative feedback, which really hurts their image, so if you receive a faulty item and notify the sellers, they will usually refund your money.

I've bought plenty of games and games accessories from eBay and never had one that didn't work. Once I received a game that was clearly pirated, so I complained to the seller and they refunded my money.

I've bought many games on eBay, and I've had almost only positive experiences with it. I got a bootleg one time, one missing manual, one instance of getting a different game than was advertised, and maybe two or three games which were in very poor condition without the advertisment making any mention of that. That's all, and I've bought dozens of games without any problems. So I think eBay works for me, however, I only buy from people in my own country. I suspect that the risk of getting conned increases with the distance between buyer and seller. One of the reasons why I don't buy stuff internationally on eBay.

I cant believe eBay would allow people to sell pirated copies..should be illegal :D. So after you complain about it being a pirated copy..did you leave negetive feedback after they did the refund?

I think it's against eBay's rules to sell anything illegal, but there are only a few very serious items they keep a really close eye out for (e.g. human body parts). For other items it's too difficult, because of the number of items being sold, the fact that they're sold internationally and there are so many different laws for each country and the fact that the seller won't mention that it's illegal.

I thought about leaving negative feedback for a while, but in the end I didn't leave any. While I'm nearly certain it was pirated (the image on the cartridge label was a stretched-out version of the box art instead of the image it should have been, for one thing), there was a small chance I was wrong. Besides, I didn't want to dump on someone else's livelihood over a pretty minor ethical quibble. That's between them and the game developers.

Kinda funny that you mention that, because at one point I needed money for college. So I decided to search ebay to find out how much kidneys were going for :)
