So here's a series you've hated for its entirety. It's done a pretty good job of maintaining your opinion of it. Then a new entry is released. It beats your opinion of the series into the pavement. It's fucking awesome.

Can you think of a game series in which that happened for you?

Up to this point, I've found the gameplay of every Mortal Kombat to be abysmal. Still, in spite of that, when the first bits of news came out for the most recent game, it managed to catch my eye. It seemed possible that this one would trump its previous entries by actually being good.

Then the demo came out and kicked glorious amounts of ass. I was so impressed that I actually pre-ordered the damn thing. I'm still shocked that there's a badass Mortal Kombat on the way.

I hated just about all Military FPS war shooters (with the exception of Battlefield 1943) until CoD4 came out. It changed my opinion of all those sorts of games and made me take the genre seriously.

I can't really think of one like that for me, but I can think of one where I thought it was good until one came out that seemed to pave the way to crappy for me. That would be Need For Speed. I loved themm all the way up to Pro Street. (I think that would be NFS Carbon and older). Lots of fun, good times. Pro Street came out and for me it took a turn to the shity. I missed the crazy fun that all the others had. It was just bland boring old racing. Never really enjoyed NFS much after that.

I was like this except replace CoD4 with MW2.

Replace Military with blank and CoD4 with Half Life 2 and it would mirror my sentiments.

So true, nobody wants actual proper 'legal' racing otherwise we would get a serious game.
Whats that? My car rolled over once and is now completely undriveable and will cost me 60k to fix. No thanks.

Not so much a game series for me, but an entire genre.

See, I've never really been into FPS that much. In fact, in my entire gaming career, I've only ever given a shit about two: Half-Life (just the original one), and GoldenEye.

Then came Bioshock. That game not ONLY defied my inherent scepticism about the genre, but ended up being my favorite game. Ever.

Admittedly, I still won't give the time of day to most FPSs. Other than the games listed above, the only other one that I like is Borderlands.

And don't even bring up Modern Warfare. I played the first few missions of Modern Warfare 2, and never looked back. Didn't do a thing for me.
