It's an entirely valid excuse, since what business is it of you or I what other people wear under their clothes? Yeah, I can't imagine it being practical but it's no more offensive than a myriad of other odd fashion choices. To be honest while my initial reaction to it was similar to most people commenting here, after some consideration I decided that it is quite interesting piece of underwear.
I would really hate if this would go nowhere only because people would dismiss it as something stupid and ridiculous.
