Man, I gotta get me some of that matcha thing. Too bad there is absolutely zero chance of that where I live. Maybe in the future, if my country stops being so backwards.

Anyway, instant coffee here. I found a brand I like, it has vitamins added and is meant to act as an "energizer" of sorts. It also tastes better than most, so it's perfect. One packet of that, one teaspoon of sugar (or two cubes of brown sugar) and one teaspoon of powdered coffee creamer. Add hot water, stir.

Though in the summer I'm pretty partial to a cold frappe. Instant coffee, lots of sugar, ice-cold milk and cream if it's a good day. The sugar's a ***** to dissolve due to the ice-cold water but the added effort just makes it more tasty.
Matcha is hard to come by in your part of the world? How do online retailers work there? I know you can order from DoMatcha here in the states; but DoMatcha is located in far-off Canada... ;)

I do love espresso when it's made fresh and proper.

I have a high tolerance so it doesn't work on me when I'm tired. I drink a lot of soda, coffee and tea. Oh and coffee icecream~
My wife is kind of like this... she can drink gallons and gallons of caffeine without it affecting her much. (And I'm on a beta-blocker for mild hypertension and a tad of left ventricular hypertrophy; ever since I started taking Bystolic it seems like I'm basically immune to stimulants.)

I hear there was a gene that some people carry that makes them metabolize caffeine extremely fast; you can actually test to see if you carry the gene with some company... I think my wife must have that gene because she can literally drink cup after cup of strong black coffee and it never makes her jittery.

Fuck caffeine, or probably just fuck energy drinks, that stuff is slowly killing me, and I vividly remember that every time I have one.
Slowly killing you?

I think as far as substances go caffeine is fairly benign, and even is touted to have health benefits.

Unless you're suffering from congestive heart failure or tachycardia or something.

I love tea, but I don't know much about it. I've been looking to learn more. Any good resources? (And for sake of the OT, that's my choice of caffeine.)

I drink cheap as fuck, pure fuel, instant coffee. By the truckload.

Only I have been off it like a week to see if it helps my headache any.
So far I just want to choke everything. You know, more than usual.
I already gave up drinking alcohol and smoking nicotine about a decade ago; I think if I had to give up caffeine, too, I'd probably kill something.

Tea... hmm... I like two sites in particular for tea:

http://www.domatcha.com/faq/ <--- Interesting FAQ about matcha, my favorite type of tea from DoMatcha, my favorite matcha company. Most matcha out there isn't really... well, matcha.

Rishi tea is my favorite online retailer for loose tea ---
http://www.rishi-tea.com/store/tea/

As far as information on tea in general, I like http://www.planet-tea.com/what_is_tea.html and http://www.teagenius.com/ among others.

I love tea as well; matcha tea is my favorite source of caffeine but as I've mentioned in the thread above I drink it just as much for the L-theanine, a chemical that causes relaxation.

Coke usually, though sometimes I really want a cup of tea.

I drink a truly obscene amount of Coke. I've been told that I'm addicted, and I probably am :p

Back when I regularly ingested caffeine? Tea of various varieties - these days though I mainly stick to herbal tea blends and avoid caffeine altogether.
My heart goes out to those who can't drink caffeine. :(

What would I do without tea? How do people who don't drink caffeine wake up? :D

Just coffee usually. I like my coffee the way I like my men. Sweet, and milky.[small] What can I say, I really like white guys.[/small] =D

Actually not even that.We HAVE coffee beans stored in the freezer for when I'd like the rare cup and when people come over. I bring out the beans, measure, grind up in a coffee grinder. Grinding your own beans is just worth it.

I tend to just drink tea. I usually buy an Ito En Matcha Blend and Lipton tea bags for company, because it can be bought in bulk. The Ito En Matcha blend is consumed plain and delicious. I tend to put almond milk and a plant-based sweetener in my hot Lipton tea. It's just good and warms you to the core.

[small]*whispers* I have some delicious chamomile tea stashed away for myself. [/small]
I like chamomile tea at bedtime... but it's definitely the opposite of an eye-opener. o_O

Costco carries that Ito En Matcha blend around these parts and it is pretty good for green tea in a bag.

I use a modified (by me) drip coffee maker. I figure I get about 140mg / 250ml of extraction.

That or I get caffeine pills, but those are for exam week.

Caffeine gives me heart palpitations, I once drank a strong coffee and thought I was going to die :S

That being said, I probably do still ingest some through fizzy drinks and green tea. So I always make sure not to drink these before bed as a racing heart is a sure fire way to keep you awake :(

Quick question about your experimentation with L-theanine megadoses... what was the effect like, taking the theanine (Isn't is suntheanine brand or somesuch?)

What did it do to you psychologically and physiologically?

I am curious since I love matcha and I drink it like its going out of style. I wonder what it would be like to just take a couple theanine capsules with coffee? It's easy to buy here in America, most online herbal supplement retailers have it. Expensive, but easy to get.
Yes, it is suntheanine, and I highly recommend only getting that, as it is the only pure product on the market (other brands are commonly tainted with the other chirality as well, which isn't well researched and potentially harmful). The psychological effects.. Let me see:
- Strong feeling of calmness (especially pronounced when trying to go to sleep)
- I start having a more focused mind on objects (hard to really explain that one)
- Similar to when I've consumed a lot of tea, I start feeling slightly euphoric, and use occasional bursts of laughter to vent it. (Though this might be a subjective effect)
- The world around me start making more sense, and it enhances my natural dreamlike thought patterns (equally difficult to explain). One particular example of this is that I had taken 200 mg of it before playing Go (the board game) against someone. I felt like I understood the game better and actually could play better (I won the two times this has been the case, and I barely had to think about my moves).

As for the physiological, I don't think I've noticed anything. Maybe a little bit of sweating and a feeling of tighter skin, but it is hard to tell.

There aren't noticeable adverse effects though, unless going above 400 mg. At those levels, I feel unpleasant afterwards, sort of like anxiety coupled with a sensation that the body isn't in optimal shape. I especially remember when I tried 1 g of it, felt quite uneasy for the rest of the evening that day (a few hours after "hour zero"). It vanishes the next day though.

200 - 400 mg seems to be the optimal amount from what I can tell, probably depends on the person though. Although I've never tried it with coffee, I imagine it isn't much different from a few cups of matcha in terms of psychological effect.

Two or more of these each day:

A mix of milk, 45% coffee (no idea how much coffeine that is) and 3% sugar. I love the taste and the relaxing feeling, but hate the after-effects (sweating, head hurts, want more coffee, difficult to focus, reduced reflexes in games).

Related, my life would probably come to an end like this:
