California Extreme 2011

California Extreme 2011 [http://caextreme.org/] took place on July 9-10 this year. Near as I can tell, the exhibition went by unnoticed by Escapists.

Basically, they reserve an exhibit hall in the Santa Clara County Convention Center for a weekend, fill it with arcade machines, set them all on free play, and sell tickets.

This year they had to turn some machines away because they had maxed out available power to the hall.

I shot a walk-around video on Saturday night/Sunday morning, which should give you a vague idea of what awaits you when you visit. (This is my video; there are plenty of others on YouTube.)

Y'know, I saw a number of rail shooters there, but I can't recall House of The Dead in particular (the aisle where most of the rail shooters were was pretty crowded most of the time). This doesn't mean it wasn't there; I just don't remember seeing it.

I'm from the UK, and arcades here are kind of a holiday/coastal thing. I was on holiday recently and ended up going to over fifteen different arcades over the space of a weekend. I only managed to find one Tekken machine, and it was an 18 year old Tekken 1 cabinet... and it was broken. Disapointing, massively.

USD$60.00 for a weekend pass; $40.00 for Saturday-only; $30.00 for Sunday-only.

Seems cheap for a rad day out if you live not too far away. For me, it would probably cost £1000 in flights. For shame.
