Hello Escapists.

I assume you've all seen Californication - or at least the commercials. At first I thought it was the male version of Sex and the City. And I was right.

But right now, I'm watching a marathon session on Comedy Central. And it's starting to grow on me - as much as it pains me to say that.

But, watching David Duchovny bone woman after woman, there's one thing that is starting to haunt me. HAUNT me. So, just to get it all out in the open (because, as we all know, it helps to talk about it):

How awesome would it be to have Gillian Anderson cameo as a potential fling interest in Californication?!

Bit of a thin topic isn't it?

I'd be more interested in the RHCP suing them over the use of Californication. I have been unable to see much of the show, I've been busy doing nothing.

Do the RHCP have copyright on Californication? I thought it was common use. Plus, I don't think artists usually copyright song titles. I mean, look at how many different songs with the same names are out there.

I have never heard of it. So your assumption is incorrect. And no, David Duchovny getting his groove on is weird, and would be incredibly so if it were with her.

Comedy Central? Are you sure about that, because I thought that show was on Showtime...

This seems more like an advert,
Secondly the name californication seems to stick out in my mind as the transitition of small towns into cess pools that glorify irresponsable behavior that the rest of the world stereotypes with us, not:
Californication<--A Horrible Pun

They say its part of the entire band, true enough, but it won't be a win for RHCP pre-existing term and all that.

no cause there would be no brand confusion, you can't confuse californication the tv show with the song and/or the album and they also use the song as the theme song

Actually Califonication is not a unique term made by RHCP. Californication is a word coined to describe out of control urban spraw.

As can be seen here: http://copywrite.org/2007/11/24/red-hot-chili-peppers-vs-showtime-in-californication-showdown/

And apparently RHCP did try to sue showtime for infringement...I hope it gets laughed out of court...either that or time magazine sues RHCP for stealing their word.
