Maybe they found a buried nazi bunker with an experimental nazi time machine in it, so they went back to kill the Russian Ultra-nationalist leader's dad who was in fact the sniper friendly that you worked with in single player CoD:WaW?

Wow, then Treyarch would have to find said time machine & go back & re-write their game & oh no! We have a paradox!

Basically, if it has to do with MP on IWnet, then it fails right away for PC.

Heck, maybe the next CoD will have more than 6 hours of single player game play!

Doubt it.

Vietnam eh? Well I suppose you could get bonus XP by completing the 'rape the farmers wife' mission while torching his rice patch.

Oh, and assuming you're playing the westerners like in every other COD, how do they intend on finishing a game based in a war where they LOSE? Though I suppose it's too early to do one in Afghanistan yet.

From what I heard, Activision is getting a third game developer to do the next Call of Duty.

oh but don't you remember? that never happened, it was a weather balloon or something. NO no, no way that the wonderful nice Americans would do something like that, goodness gracious me.

It could have great potential if they chose to go for Vietnam, I thought they did a good job with World at War's russian levels which gave it a far darker and more brutal than other CoD games. They showed that they weren't afraid to show you what a war can do to someone with the crazy russian leader, who was just relishing the slaughter of the germans. The question is whether they'd be willing to do that with an American character, having a blood thirsty russian hungry for revenge is one thing. Showing a GI gone mad from the visceral brutality of that war would be another altogether.

It would either be even better than MW2 or it'll totally nose dive and be the same trash as 98% of the vietnam games out there. Just the fact there's a slight risk they wouldn't make millions off it is probably enough to give activision pause.

Oh that would be one hell of a title.

OT: I'd have no proplem with a game from Vietnam, but I would much rather see Korea since I have yet to play a game for that war.

Indeed, you can play as Soap's father and escape a POW camp as well.

[sub]Oh, I almost forgot about burning all of those Vietnamese huts to the ground just for the hell of it.[/sub]

I think that the main problem with a game based on the War in Vietnam is that most handling of the subject tends toward unrealistic extremes (like a lot of war games, come to think of it). Either all of the American soldiers are sociopathic crazies who slaughter enemies like its nothing while innocent Vietnamese try to fight them off, or the situations are reversed (usually with the Americans being draftees who oppose the war but can't bring themselves to dodge the draft). What a lot of treatments of the subject miss is that people on both sides of the war were human, capable of making mistakes and having more motivation than "gee, killing other people is fun" or "I don't know what I'm doing here."

And, if you want to bring up the My Lai massacre, yes, there were some insane U.S. soldiers who thought that killing innocent Vietnamese citizens was good fun. There were also soldiers in that same incident who tried to stop their fellow men from doing all that, and even went so far as to protect the innocent civilians from their comrades.

But, back to the game, I'm really hoping that someone at Treyarch (or whoever's doing it) puts a lot of work into the story, and doesn't make another derivative shooter.

oooooh vietnam. I don't care for the country, per se, but I love the setting. Lots of bushes trees, jungle, etc: my favorite.

Sounds controversial though.

That actually sounds pretty good. They can even keep up the tradition of blowing the shit out of protagonists with unintentional napalm drops, caustic dousings of the variously colored agents, and angry unseeable Viet Cong in the trees. Maybe they'll even keep the tradition of making you do something that might be ethically controversial by making you gun down a village of Vietnamese people with hyper-accurate but contemporary weaponry. Sounds good, no?
