That would be a more interesting realistic mode.

But, in gameplay terms, what is the difference between your last sentance and a 1 hit kill? Both render you unable to continue playing.
The point of this would be in team/cooperative game modes. Your companions would have to decide to either drag you along to safety, putting themselves at higher risk, or simply abandoning the injured team member to his fate.

While that sounds interesting, the true test is whether or not the gameplay, which is normally focussed around health regen, can even support such a system in a fun way. Sorry to be the nay-sayer, but making grand marketing statements is much easier than making good on such promises.
