Call of Duty Developer Gets Death Threats After New Patch

This seems like par for the course for every single "CoDtard". (this being a jacka** who ONLY plays CoD and believes...)

I'm sorry but this guy deserved absolutely nothing in response to patching guns by miliseconds. Hell he didn't deserve any feedback in any form, he's doing a fine job maintaining video games for millions of mindless drones. If his producers wanted him to work on something more productive like anything other than Call of Duty, then he'd work on that. He's not a Nazi, he's a game programmer.

Those three weapons were probably overpowered or abused in some way so he fixed it.
That does not warrant half the fanbase getting the pitchforks and torches and proceeding to threaten the mans very existence.

Do I? Is that what I have done? Have I said "Meh, free country", and with an attitude of indifference, ignored what was sent? Do you expect me to reply to that person on the developer's behalf? I do not play CoD, so I don't get to interact with the community in-game, and I am not in dialogue with the person in question. I have posted here, I thought pretty clearly indicating that I thought sending a death threat was a pitiful thing to do, but that it shouldn't be a legal offence, and that it is basically empty. What do you expect me to do?

And on that note, what good are you doing, exactly? Did you do anything other than post in this thread, accusing me of handwaving? Are you hacking into emails and trying to discern this person's online ID so justice can be served?

If it makes you feel any better, a lot of the butthurt folks are threatening to leave and go back to Modern Warfare 3. To which I say: I can't wait for my finger to get better and play in the new, improved Blops 2 community!

Funny you say that. I came up with a diagram (not really a diagram, but piss off, im calling it a diagram) that shows the basic lifecycle of a COD game:

1- New Release: COD game is released for the public, thus it is considered awesome and most everyone is on a level playing field. Lasts about 2-3 months after game release.

2- It sucks: Due to people having had about several months of play, as well as new players to the game, People start bitching for a number of reasons, before deciding that the new game sucks and goes back to the previous game.

3- ?????[footnote]I didnt think of a name for this one yet.[/footnote]: This is the part where the game actually does get better because alot of people left it to go back to the previous game. For the Xbox, come with the benefit of less people bitching than normal for XBL.

4- Old game: this is the time which the new COd game is released. Save for the dedicated few, most people will be buying and playing the new game.

5- Revisiting: See part 2.

on a side note, Mr. Amrich's comment is really something that should be plastered on the walls of everyone who wants games to be considered an art. Stop acting like a mob of lobotomized angry seals and start acting like adults if you want to have games treated with respect that is deserved. Let's put this in perspective, if a major change happened in Blazblue that severely affected my combos, i'd be pissed but I would not cross the line; don't cross the line here.

I miss MW2... It was so batshit broken and new glitches were found every other month it was endearing, charming and fun as hell. Every other COD game is just boring in comparison. Seriously, remember when you could get infinite Care Packages and you had just both teams spamming the FUCK out of them? You could run really, really fast if you equipped a Care Package because you're not loaded down by a gun which spawned the Marathon + Commando + Care Package knife hilarity? The rapid fire AC130? The glitch that made your gun have no reload?

Fuck that game was great.

You know what, if they made shooters like that, I'd probably be on them. The only thing close is TF2 with it's odd quirks and bugs but that is infinitely more fun than COD (helps that the classes are unique and have personality)

I like Call of Duty, I had great fun in CoD 4 and MW2, but I HATED the community to the core. What creates this community that its ok to give people death threats? Is it the game? Is it the pace? I don't know.

Let's find the cause of the problem and try to fix it. I know I can get really ticked off with some games, I'm a massive World of Tanks fan and I can go a bit over the top after a long day, but threatening people with death... over a patch which on paper... is a series of lines of letters and numbers.

This is not right if we are to be a people of justice, decency and progression. Someone just... slap these people across the face. Please, just slap them. No jail time, not thousands of pounds down the drain, just SLAP them.

Y'know I never got to enjoy the prepatched version of Battlefield 2 where M95 rounds could explode FAV engines, destroying a buggy and netting 3 kills instantly. If I can handle that dissappointment of missed-out-on hilarity, these guys can gamer-up and handle a couple of milliseconds adjustment. However important they think it is, however it screws up the delicate balance of their hair-sensitivity to FPS timings, they made themselves the dick when they thought threats of violence were a reasonable response.

As I said at the beginning of the comment, I defend speech to the point of being offensive, INCLUDING some cases of violent speech as saying something violent without actually having intentions of violence is meaningless. The asshole comment and the shoe thing have exactly the same weight when applied with the same intentions.

Furthermore, I agreed with the developer. In this case, I feel it isn't ok to be slinging death threats simply because it is entertainment and the changes to the game are so tiny.
