Yeah, bad pun...I couldn't resist! ;)

Anyway, has anybody on the Escapist actually arranged video game scores for a performing ensemble?

Also, for all of our non-musicians, which video game music would work best for a marching band show (high school, college)? which for an orchestra (middle, high, college)?

All ideas welcome: looking to use some of these in school next year!

Um. Give me some tabs and I will be able to play you it on the bass instantly or on the guitar after a days practice.

What are you asking of us anyway?

One of our high school orchestras did music from Final Fantasy - but I think the arrangements were already written by the publisher, our directors certainly didn't have the time to do it. There are recordings by Nobuo Uematsu of the music from FF being done by an orchestra. Also, definitely check out: Edit: (better link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVHGy9XEF9I

Music for marching band is harder. It has to be something that everyone will recognize, not just gamers, and it also has to fit into a sort of theme. Probably the music from the first Mario is the best known, but I'm not sure I would make video games the theme of the show. If you did 80s, I think you might get a better popular reaction.

I was thinking about that...but you have to be able to bridge the gap between the kids playing the music and the adults listening to it. Sure, everyone knows the original theme from LOZ, but need to be able to pull one, possibly two more down is hard.

So you want us to think of music to give to you for a slow march from a game right?

A friend preformed the Halo theme song at my high school talent show.
I think Mike Story did a full band arrangement of that song a year ago...we played it this year, it was actually pretty good.

Not necessarily slow...something to put on the marching field or something that the kids would enjoy playing.

Like Pimppeter said, Mario is good.

If you're looking for something a bit faster, the Assassins creed one is good.
