So while watching Avatar, i kept thinking about why Cameron didn't just make another Alien movie instead.

Some reasons for this are, the fact Sigourney Weaver still looks good enough and still has a strong screen presence and so could reprise the role of Ripley easily, the fact Cameron basically recycled alot of the airships and the space marines of Aliens, and even some characters namely the Burke-esque fat cat guy in the movie. It seemed to me as if Cameron would've been more at home reviving the Alien franchise.

So i thought for 10 years work to bring out a film which is as many say 'Dances with smurfs' is a bit of a waste of time. Cameron should've in my opinion took on the Alien franchise once more instead.

Any thoughts on this?

Alien had its time. Avatar is a fantastic technological achievement and I don't think Cameron could have achieved that if he'd had the pressure of Alien fans on his back.
I haven't seen Avatar, partly because I think the plot looks cookie-cutter and partly because I simply haven't found the time.

You realize that every director has his motifs right?
In a Cameron film you basically get:

Gun Porn
Fear of Technology
Nuclear Power
Tough Female characters and of course
Bill Paxton

Besides is it any wonder Avatar feels like Aliens? You got ExoSuits and Sigourney Weaver. They would have gotten the guy who originally played John Connor from Terminator but Cameron went against that since it would have really been an Aliens reunioin.

It is basically Pocahontas, that pic is pocahontas story but replacing some words so it is Avatars characters.

But anyways, it was a good visual film I guess and I haven't seen aliens so I can't compare.

Well, two problems I can think of:

First, the series kind of went off the deep end after the last Aliens movie (Clone Ripely! Whee!)

Second, probably in no small part due to the above issue, I remember Sigourney Weaver saying somewhere that she has essentially no interest in doing another Aliens movie.

Off topic: WOW, that actually is the story of Avatar in a nutshell. Avatar is Pocahontas in SPACE and looks amazing.

I've never really cared for the alien franchise and I think a new IP is more acessably for new viewers. If the next aliens had been made with the budget of Avatar, it might have put to meany viewers off to make it's budget back.

Let Aliens die.

Look, I love the franchise as much as the next nerd and I'd be lying if I still didn't have a thing for Sigourney Weaver, but damn it's been how many years now since it all began? How many spinoff have there been? Bad movie, bad tie-ins, bad games and books, each one diluting the original's greatness just a little bit more each time.

Time to let it die, move onto new things. You gotta let go, I know it's tough, but ya gotta!

Actually thinking about it, instead of Aliens 5 I'd much rather see a PROPERLY made Aliens VS Predator movie.

One that's set in the same time period as Aliens with the space marines caught in the middle and all of that instead of this 'set on Earth in modern times' nonsense the current AVP movies have been doing.

Ya hear me Cameron!?! Get on it!
