So why do people hate campers in FPS?

I dont understand. no one ever gives me a valid reason. it seems to be one of the better strats. your defending so you have the advantage.

but when other people camp i can kill them easy enough so i dont know why people get so agro at me when i camp.

I've gotta admit, I was imagining Camping. As in the actual thing, where you go outdoors and sleep in a tent.

The only problem I have with it is CoD games because there are so many rooms and because everyone simply picks a room and camps. Which leaves things to be very frustrating for the one or two people that actually go out and hunt. The older more arcady shooters promoted movement and moving into open areas which made the game much more even and paced it better.

soory for misleading you. but i did post it i nthe game section of the forums :)

Well with COD and their stupid spawn system. it promotes camping in my boooks. whats the point of me making my way from point A to point B for the enemy to just start spawning at point A and me having to hoof it back there.

I don't mind camping if they're defending an objective, or if they've noticed an enemy coming their way on the radar and decide that it would be best to wait for him to rush through the door before owning him, thats just using the information you've been given

Picking a room and staring at a doorway for the entire game is annoying for other players and must be damn boring for the guy doing it

Although special mention must go to the snipers in BFBC2, i once saw 5 snipers on the attacking team sitting on the same rock firing at the enemy base... If you've played BFBC2 you'll know that sniping the enemy from across the map while they're in their base is useless if there's noone actually taking the objectives

Waiting near an objective for the inevitably soon arriving foe? Cool.

Sitting in a corner, waiting for easy frags of foes who've come to get you because you're the last opponent alive and haven't followed the objective, which requires attacking, when you have no reason to do that? Uncool.

It works and it's frustrating.

Do we need any more reason then that?

EDIT:

Ugh.

If I got a penny for every time my team lost on offence because every one of the dumb bastards was busily sniping at the infinitly respawning defenders...

I usually respond by grabbing smoke grenades and launching them all over the snipe point.

I actually find it tense and exciting. There's usually more than one entrance to most places in FPS games and I have no idea which one someone will come through. Even if there is only one entrance I would still have to react to grenades and so on.

not when it comes to most campers were thy use sniper rifles so you can't get within throwing distance.

OT: because I don't want to just have a hard gun fight with a very skilled player in which I win and then get shot by someone with a instant kill just because I didn't check every corner of the room in 1 second because I was running from more gun fire. And don't get me started on camping in objective based game modes

I don't mind camping snipers or if you have noticed an enemy on the radar and decide it would be best to hide and jump out on him yelling abloogywoogywoo! when he comes close to you but I hate the fuckers that sit in corners and hold ADS at a door waiting for people to come through to earn some cheap kills. Personally I find it a cheap tactic but I think most people do it because they're worried about their precious little K/D ratio.

I love the way Crysis 2 handles killstreak rewards not only have I not run into any campers on it yet but even if someone did decide to camp and rack up the kills they would still have to come out of their little hiding spot to collect the dogtags for their killstreak rewards and risk getting shot and their killstreak ended. Well unless they get the perk that lets you automatically pick up tags by just killing the player.

On CoD I like to play on hardcore modes, mainly Search & Destroy but if i'm in an Xbox LIVE party with a couple of mates then I'll have a go on Hardcore Team Deathmatch since you can't play Search & Destroy while in an Xbox LIVE party. Anyone who plays Hardcore TDM will have noticed that the games go by really slowly. The majority of players camp because there's no HUD or Killcams so they can get away with it and it ruins the game because for players like me that like to be constantly on the move you can never fucking find anyone until you run in a room and get shot in the back by some twat hiding in the corner.

This. But now that I know, I think it is because it is something that requires little skill or practice to pull off and lets you kill skillful or practiced players, and that's a tad of a gamebreaker.

If there are smoke grenades in CoD or whatever game we're discussing, then that can be solved to. It's all about tactical application and teammates, if you can rely on them.

this sounds good in theory but most of the time there is only about 1 or 2 other people talking to you in the game and why bother using 3 people to take out a camper who will be back there in 30 seconds. Campers are also irritating as they don't play in the spirit of the game which is the gun fight, it is not fun walking round the corner and getting killed in 1/2 a second by some one who just cares about the kills. This is why I like games with lots of health so even though campers have about 2 second head start you have more movement space to avoid bullets, and you are shooting a still target so campers don't have a massive advantage for being lazy.

Same here. That would have been a considerably more interesting thread.

OT: It doesn't give players a chance to get anywhere when they are killed as soon as they spawn. That ruins the game.

Same.

I was sorely tempted to post some remark about tents and camp fires.

Anyhow:

I don't really have a problem with it; camping is usually easy to counter if you flank.

So you see kids, these are the reasons why CoD and other "realistic" shooters suck. Give me TF2 and Counterstrike over this crap any day.

Because its different then the run and gun and if you're not good at killing campers, it pisses people off and the words like "cheaters" and "dicks" and "campys" come up.

Really, I have no problem with it. I dont camp, I just cant stand sitting somewhere like that, but if I do team stuff, we'll always ask my friend ryan to play, and he camps. He'll sit soemhwere where he has full view of a field and watch out for us while we run and gun, taking people out that we dont see before they take us out.

And of course we always leave someone to protect him, unless he's untouchable. His custom built character is a sniper and assualt rifle user, so usually he's pretty much good.

Once you learn the more popular camping areas, things aren't so bad.
