Because most of the money they make goes to the studios.
They have to make money somehow.

I mean, it's not like they make money off of the 20 dollar snacks or 10 dollar tickets or anything. Imagine... 30 dollars for almost every person. Think about all the people who go to movies. That's a lot of money. They really don't have to force us to watch poorly acted local commercials at the theater.

... show up 10 minutes after the movie is scheduled, and stop complaining.

And get crappy seats.

Not if you send in a friend (aka SUCKER) to reserve you seats, Or pay that lil bit extra & get premier numbered seats.

So my options are be a jerk or buy premium seats which don't exist in any theater I know.

Or sit through mind numbing ads.

Although the old orange ones were funny - "can we get a tighter jumper on cheerleader #3"

I am actually fond of a number of the movie ads and tend to spend time mocking the basic nonsense ads with friends.

You actually watch the ads??... I just go in early with my mates, sit down on the back row, stuff around on our PSP's/DSi's/iPhones and consume everything we purchased in the lobby until the previews start.

You also pay for TV and have to watch advertisements there.

And the internet. Advertisements are there.

Also, advertisements are at sporting events. And you have to pay out the ass to get into those.

It's an advertising world. You'll find advertisements everywhere, free or not.

i don't think they have advertisements on all the movies at the theater here a couple times it has started without the advertisements. also they are no as near as annoying as the ones you get when you are trying to watch a 2 minute movie on the internet and they come up every other movie and are always the same

To make more money on top of their high ticket fees and ridiculously high concession stands. It makes good business sense.

Movie theaters don't make squat off of ticket sales. Same with gas stations, a good 90% of the profit that both make come from sales of concessions/greasy snack food.
