I know these kind of topics are frowned upon a bit, but I just want some free enjoyment for awhile. Plus, it's way too cold to go anywhere right now to buy something.

What I already have:

I Wanna Be The Guy- If you can handle frustration well, this is a good choice
Iji- Absolutely love this game
Eversion- Don't submit to the torture
Fraxy- Haven't started
Cave Story- Haven't started
QuakeLive (thanks SteveBurger for refreshing my memory.)
Dwarf Fortress (thank you Furburt, and evilgrim)
Imperishable Night (thank you Wheeeee)

I've looked at lists, but I want to know your recommendations, so that I can seperate the good from the bad. Open Source and shareware is also okay with me.

Search the forums, I know this has been done before. I recommend Quake Live. It's basically Quake 3 with slightly lower graphics and no gore. Still fun.

EDIT: I don't know how I managed to miss that last part about having seen other lists. Sorry.
Don't blame you, and I forgot to put QL, I just haven't played in so long.

And these sound pretty good from what you all have listed thanks, but I want to see some more.

This one is hillarious! It is just a little flash-style game, but I played it for about 15-20 minutes trying to see what all you can do.

The game is called: Don't Shit your pants

Minecraft.

Minecraft is a free form sandbox game.
It's in alpha and is nowhere near done..
But you can still play it.
And in the future it'll have lots of new game modes.. Like Capture The Flag and Zombie Defence.

The edit was a major edit because as I was creating this post instead of clicking "Preview Post" I clicked "Post" so.. Sorry about that.

I second the Dwarf Fortress notion.

It wasn't my thing really, sorry. I'm just not a big fan of poop jokes.

Knytt and Knytt Stories are great.
Merry Gear Solid 2 was released recently, and that's pretty good (though you probably won't get the humour if you haven't played Metal gear Solid).
Also, there's some great freeware games by Konjak here: http://www.konjak.org/

A small indy game company called S2Games made Savage years back. It combines RTS with FPS, i.e. there is one commander who can build stuff, tech and order troops around, and many others who play these troops, and of course do not have to follow these orders.

It is freeware now and a community maintains and adds stuff, their version is called Savage XR. Very addictive (but I'm free now!), but also a somewhat steep learning cure (nowhere as bad as DwarfFortress).

Try Spelunkey [http://www.spelunkyworld.com/]. It's a fun little game I recently got. Just be warned; it's really damn hard. But at least it's always fair.
