Can I flag my own posts?

Yet again my Firefox has decided that The Escapist no longer exists when posting a message, and then when I refresh/reload the page my posting isn't there - so I make another comment and lo and behold I get two copies of the same post with minutes between them.

Can I "flag" these posts to get removed by a mod and not get into trouble? It just looks untidy and messes up the flow of the thread.

I think it's better to just leave it. You can always edit it with "sorry double post" if you feel the need. Flagging it just seems like a waste of the mod's time.

I wouldn't flag, because it may be construed as conflicting the Code of Conduct, and will get you an unwarranted mark on your health meter.
If you edit the post to something along the lines of 'double post; Firefox tried to kill the Escapist with fire' it's an understandable mistake, and won't get you into trouble.

Yeah, I don't get why they keep wasting everyone's time with these horrible site/forum layout changes, instead of just giving us the ability to delete our own posts.
'08 layout for life!

I've done it before. Edited the post to explain the problem and self-reported.

Just edit your post to explain the problem.

More importantly though, use Google Chrome!

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it. As others have said, just edit the second one to say something like "Double Post, please delete" or contact a mod directly.

Yes, it is possible to report one's own posts.

It is, however, more helpful if you edit the second post to something along the lines of "Double post" or "Please delete" prior to reporting the post. That way the reason for the report is evident much faster.

Alternatively, you could PM a moderator directly to get the specified post removed. If you do so, please remember to include a link to the post you want removed.

For those curious, we do not banhammer people for accidentally double posting -- we tend to simply delete the post in question and move on. We do, however, banhammer people for double posting on purpose in a way that bumps the thread ("thread bumping").

And no, we don't mind removing accidental double posts, since in the end it makes the forums cleaner.

The more you know!
