Can my DS be saved?

I've had my DS Lite for nearly two years now but since the beginning of this year I have noticed some unpleasant changes in it. Some, such as reduced responsiveness of certain buttons and parts of the touch screen, I can deal with.

But the hinge has become somewhat loose and I think that the connection to the top screen may also have loosened. The display of the top screen will easily wink out at the slightest movements and I need to wiggle the hinge around to get it back. Anyone know a way to fix this, or is it just time to let go and let my DS cross the River Styx?

EDIT: Forgot to mention this, but I don't think that I'd be able to get Nintendo to repair my DS because the serial number on the back of the unit rubbed off long ago.

This is Some Higher Archie's way of saying "Buy a DSi."
I'd trade my lite into Gamestop, don't tell them about the issues.
1. You'll stick it to the man.
2. You'll teach some poor kid the valuable lesson of buying all their consoles new.

This works too.

Just run a soldering iron over the hinge, and then give the whole shibang a good wash with some bleach, that ought to fix the touch screen as well.

That happened to me once, but I sent it to the manufacturer and they fixed it, no worries.

Problem is, I don't know whether your warranty's expired or not. Chances are that it has.

Buy a first-gen DS.

Mine's still running smooth as Cadbury chocolate.

Going on 5 years now.

If it were me, I would buy another broken DS for cheap and cannibalize it for parts. But I enjoy fixing things. As much as it pains me to say it, buying a newer model may be the better solution.

You could always try kicking it? That's supposed to work well on other things, right?

Or alternatively, like Homer you could try taking a hammer and an electric screwdriver to it

... I'm an idiot aren't I?

This except mine has one blue pixel in the top left...

Also, all the accessories are manufactured for the lite now so it's really hard to find any new ones.

You'd be surprised actually. I fixed a computer mouse's buttons by swinging the thing around and hitting it on the floor several times. :Dv
