Can Scribblenauts Possibly Live Up To Expectations?

If you're a gamer, you've heard of Scribblenauts. If you've been on any website, hell, the internet, you've heard of Scribblenauts. However, if you've been living under some sort of rock recently, this is 5th Cell's extremely ambitious attempt at a game on the DS. If you want any more info, Google it and be amazed.

But the thing I've been thinking is can this game possibly live up to the expectations that have been loaded onto it? The main thing I can think of is that if done wrong it could get really stale quite fast. If it's how I see it, thinking of a new way to get to the objective would become dull after 3 or 4 levels.

Secondly, to me, it seems as though every level involves getting a star down from a place. Now, you could type in the word 'jetpack' every time and get it. I know there are restrictions, but surely by typing in very similar words every time (ladder, cherry picker, pogo stick, trampoline, etc.) it would also be quite simple. 5th Cell have, probably, thought of this and built a work around, and I trust that they've designed their levels well enough that this won't be a problem. But, you know, maybe.

So, to wrap up, so much praise and hype has been heaped upon this game that I'm almost positive it wont be as good as it seems, which right now is beyond excellent. With my first point in mind, especially, what are your views on this?

Ive never heard of it but from the looks of the Screenshots it looks like another game of mine called "Drawn to life" which had the most enthralling story for a 5-10 year old game. I ended up actually shedding a tear when the main guy character (apart from you) went off to join the pirates but came back for the girl he loved.

God ... I need therapy.

But back on topic. Looks fun. I think it will live upto expectations.

I hope it works. I really really really do.
I have one objection to your post, however.

The point is, while you could do that, it would remove the entire point from the game. If ssomeone buys the game just to try and get through it as fast as possible, they're an idiot. Experimantation and messing around is the point of this game. Will being able to summon Cthullu (and you can) help in any way? Probably not. But I know that's the first thing I'm going to do. Then I'm going to summon a pack of werewolves. With shotguns. Because I can.

Well, I bet that in at least 90% of the levels you could write jetpack. You'd get bored. That's your own fault, not the games! Try something new, sexy and exciting, like 2 panda's with a tophat on a unicycle!

EDIT:
F-bomb, I got ninja'd :(

I REALLY hope it can live up to the expectations, but deep down I think that it won't be as good or as impressive as we've been lead to believe.

Yes - 5th Cell developed Drawn to Life, along with Lock's Quest.

But the fun (and point) is in exploring.

Also, making God fight Cthulhu.

I'm not sure, but it almost makes me want to buy a DS.
You mean you haven't got one already?

Just kidding, I only have a DS because I won a DS Lite in a competition when they first came out. Otherwise I wouldn't be so lucky (obviously...). Anyway, I haven't heard of it as of yet, but I'm sufficiently intrigued by the mention of Scribblenauts to want to see what the fuss is about now. But from what the OP is saying, it seems he's worried that the game mechanic that makes it sort of special and unique may in fact become it's downfall. To which I say, isn't that a risk in any game that has something new? Or perhaps the mechanic may be so hyped that the rest of the game fails to live up to expectations (the most notable current gen example I can think of was the hype over Assassin's Creed and the parkour gameplay there, which was overshadowed by people's disappointment at the repetitive missions). It's a risk you take with any game, and if the developers have a good enough level design team (something I'm firmly interested in), then there shouldn't be a major problem.

P.S. Slightly off topic, I know, but can anyone tell me, is it free to download The Path? I've been interested in it for a while now, but I'm worried about spending money on games when I'm trying to find a part time job and need to put money aside for living at university next semester. If it isn't free, can someone let me know how much the game actually costs? Thanks.

Aktchully, I found one in a rental car once.

It was in the glove box.
I eventually gave it away to a friend.
Who are you and what have you done with Max? You've eaten his liver with fava beans and a nice chianti, haven't you? HAVEN'T YOU?

Cookie for reference.

Seriously though, you doing something nice and considerate? That doesn't sound like the Max I know. Unless the DS was full of some sort of flesh eating toxin...

Please note that once you finished the game a harder mode will unlock where you can use each word only once during the game. I think this drastically increases replayability and urges you to be more creative.

The basic premise of Scribblenauts is that in each level you need to get a star. To do this you write in a word (or many words). The item described materialises and you can use it. The fantastic part is the sheer size of the game's vocabulary. You can make a skateboard-riding God battle Cthulhu with a shotgun.

To the OP: You most likely could do just that. However, and loathe as I am to say this about any game, if you find yourself resorting to the jetpack each and every time, then ur doin it rong.

EDIT: Baldur's Gate. Give me that cookie.

I'm guessing our friend Hannibal?

Also, I like to keep people guessing.
This is why I randomly poison my friends throughout the week.
Remind me never to return to Florida for a holiday (although you'll probably remind me to go, just so you can kill me for daring to escape...).

I really think it can. I mean, if one type of level isn't good for you, they've got about 200 left for you to enjoy. I would even say that it's worth the 35 bucks just for the sandbox part.

No, it cannot. To be good enough, it'd require much more programming that I think a DS can take. Still, it'll probably be a solid game for a handheld.
