I think everyone knows that lately the PSN suffered an attack leaving it down for a couple of days now (I think it has been around three or four at the time of writing). But what I don't know is what in the "#$#"$ world these people like Anonymous and other similar factions expect to acheive out of this(it can't be becouse of Geohotz couse that case is resolved). couse they're hurting Sony (which may be their plan) but also hurting everyone else who plays videogames and want to use the PSN to play with freinds. So when I think of these factions like Anonymous all I see is a collection of immature brats out to destroy my online experirence which I enjoy on my console

so please if somebody knows why they are doing this just let me know

Anonymous I think expose shady business practices / company secrets. Other than that? Other hackers..

I think it is because they are trying to show Sony that there are consequences for their recent actions. Maybe they hope that they'll make Sony's stock go down or so they get a s-load of complaints hoping that Sony will stop the things they've been doing. I could be wrong though =P

edit: personally I don't like Anonymous and since I don't play online the PSN being down doesn't bother me.

Anonymous said they didn't do anything.
Maybe some guy at sony tripped over a wire or somebody brought it down from the inside for lulz.

also I just recently went and looke at Anonymous facebook page and it confirm (partly) my suspicion of them being a group of chilish idiots with surprisingly good hacking skills. If they don't like the service provited by sony and how they handle information (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=128798377161188&topic=356) then don't use it and try to show other people your reason for not using it then you are doing great work for your couse (and in turn Sony would probably change the thing you don't like (this is capitalism folk and it works)

If PSN users are still bitching about this, then I am ashamed to be a gamer.

My friedn's 360 RRODed on him the day Halo 3 came out and he joked about it and went on with his life (he was 13 at the time btw.) And yet you guys keep bitching on the forums about how you can't play Portal 2 or SOCOM or Mortal Kombat. You sicken me. If someone did hack into PSN and cause the shut down I want to shake his hand for exposing the sad little man-children for what they really are.
Are you sure you're on the same planet as we are? He was asking if anyone knew WHY it was done. Anyway if he played Halo or Halo 2 then he'd already played Halo 3.

Because people care more about their petulant little hissy fits than they do about other, real, innocent people. Way of the world.

Well, anon announced they didn't do it, and the last time they did, they stopped precisely because it was harming innocent customers they were trying to defend. So I really don't get your point. They have nothing against the service, they just wanted to defend GeoHotz' right to modify his own property without it affecting others.

yea he had a couse (heating problem) and a solution (just turn in the broken 360 and get annother one) with a obvious party responsible (Microsoft)who admited their foult and have fixed it with their newer 360's (couse the problem was hurting their sales (capitalism))

but in this case:
Couse (???????)
solution (wait until Sony fixes the problem)
party responsible (immature brats)

I think I can see a diffrence between our situations here but I am going on with my life playing my favorite single player games it's just that I got portal 2 the day it started and wanted to play with my freind over the internet. so of course I want to see a sensible couse to why the PSN is down

P.s. English is not my first language so please excuse my spelling errors couse I have no idea how these word are suposed to be spelled

Anon have said they haven't done it. Whether thats true or not is debatable, though why they'd lie I don't know. (Look at me talking about Anon as if it's a close knit organisation...)

It'll be someone acting on their own, most likely. Why? Possibly angry at the whole Geohotz debacle.

Also, nice self-censorship. Incredibly classy.

Very much this. Whoever hacked PSN has held up a hilariously unflattering mirror to society.

I'm agreeing with this.
Anon isn't the only people who have this sort of capacity. They don't really have a reason to since the Geohotz case is closed.

In fact, all it takes is one man finding a vulnerability significant enough for Sony to panic and pull the plug on the network before the damage spreads. Sony shut down the entire net themselves, allegedly to restructure it, no doubt covering the above hypothetical vulnerability. Mass attacks normally don't have this effect.
