The original Monkey Island games were created by Lucas Arts, now after a large 9 year break they are allowing the games developing company Telltale Games to make a new Monkey Island.
This Monkey Island will not be done in the traditional fashion and instead will be split into 5 parts over the next 5 months, this is the way they release all there games at Telltale Games, it is also being created in full 3D and is not the usual point and click and now has a Drag and Hold movement system or a WASD movement system.. The first chapter came out on July the 7th and is availible for digital download Via TellTale Games website or the Steam Client...

The Original Series started in 2D but began to move towards 3D towards the end.
The Secret of Monkey island...

The Curse of Monkey island...

The new series is complete 3D..

The Tales of monkey Island...

I thought Curse of MI had the best art style by far. I've always been a big fan of animation(obviously) and CMI DOTT and the original Sam and Max are some of my favorite games and a huge inspiration for my own work. I don't mind the new one being in 3D, but I've always felt the point and click style worked best in a 2D environment. That said, i've always been a fan of the MI series and I am looking forward to giving this a shot. I'll most likely wait until it comes out on the Wii like I did with the new Sam and Max.

I'm mostly looking forward to the Secret of MI remake though. I really hope they release it on the Wii or Macintosh. :)

The new Secret Of MI was very well done indeed, i espiecially liked the instant cross over between new and old...
i hope they do it with the others..
The S&M games were done v. well by TTG but i just feel the 3D enviroment feels messy with MI :S

I'm confident they can. They did it well with Sam and Max, although I haven't played the new MI games yet.

Tales of Monkey Island episode 1 did capture the feeling of the old Monkey Island games and the 3D looks are based on Curse looks.

If you put the 3D of ToMI into a 2D plane like Curse you going to get the same result.

Its not just the graphics though. there are so many changes, there are diferent voice actors for everyone except for guybrush...and after playing it, it didnt seem to have the same comical factor

Telltale has swiped the mantle of the adventure game genre away from LucasArts and I hope they continue to make games like Sam&Max and Strong Bad as well as doing solid remakes of the classics. If they could find a way to collaborate with Double Fine somehow and remake Full Throttle and/or Grim Fandango, that would be beautiful.

I never got the chance to play the original games, but this reproduction to a more modern standard might just tempt me to find out what all the fuss was about.

I think it will be impossible for Telltale to surpass the level of the perfect Curse of Monkey Island, but that the first Tales episode still was very funny and had some great puzzles. I already can't wait for episode two.
