Can Videogames Make You Cry?

Funnily enough a video game did make me cry. At the time I didn't cry when I was playing it but then when I watched the same cut scene again on Youtube I was in tears. Strange huh? In case you're interested it was the ending scene on the Airship with Tidus and Yuna saying goodbye in FFX that caused the water works.
I think you do get emotionally attached to charecters in games, the same as in a book and a film. In fact I think it's possible to be more attached as video games are naturally longer than films and you are more closely linked to the charecters as you are seeing the story through their eyes by controlling their actions.
FFX though is the only one I can recall that I cried while watching/playing. Emotional responce is natural while playing video games, sometimes they can cause me to loose my temper big time (I've lost count of the number of times I've turned a game off in disgust because I died, again).

I would only cry if the game immediatley grabbed me and screamed "SYSTEM OF A DOWN IS DEAD! I KILLED THEM!" I would cry, then rage would build up and I would unless my fury on the world.

But other then that, video games have yet to make me cry. I honestly can't remember the last time I cried...

Sadly, I cried in Gears 2.
The voice actor who plays Dom was so amazing. When he saw Maria, I just teared up. That was the most epic voice acting ever.

My boyfriend gave a little sniff in MGS4. lol

I haven't cried at a video game. In fact I've only ever cried at one form of media and that was an Anime called Clannad.

Closest I've ever came was HL2:E2's ending, but that just made me feel depressed and didn't get any tears.
Yeah I could see where they tried to tug at our heartstrings with that but I just found it ill-timed and, considering you've just been playing an FPS - shouldn't bother you so much. That's just my opinion.

If you have played Shadow Hearts Covenant (One of the all time JRPG Greats*) and Have A Soul, you did and yes, videogames can.

A few others I can name are:
-MGS3 if you play the whole game and use that "perspective cam" thing in the end.
-FF7... I didn't, cuz my character spent very little time of value with Aerith, but apparently, many people cried.
-Shadow Of The Colossus: 1- It's just so... wow.... 2- If you get the gist of the story... ouch to the poor mc
-Grand Theft Auto 4: Ok granted I didn't cry... but I felt for Nico in the revenge act.
-Too Human: It was just sooo bad.... Why!? It could have been good if the developpers were better... The concepts were promising (I mourn the loss of a good concept lost on bad gaming design).
-LoZ:Oot ; I was young, had always been rooting for some kind of conclusive ending for poor link, instead, his best friend and Zelda (who I perceived as true love) left for that Sages guarding the seal business.

Same for me. Good games draw you into the characters as much as good films, the only differences are in the fight-scenes.

I cried in the end of Control Point's last episode.
Does that count?
(if you didn't know control point is a team fortress 2 podcast.)
