Funnily enough a video game did make me cry. At the time I didn't cry when I was playing it but then when I watched the same cut scene again on Youtube I was in tears. Strange huh? In case you're interested it was the ending scene on the Airship with Tidus and Yuna saying goodbye in FFX that caused the water works.
I think you do get emotionally attached to charecters in games, the same as in a book and a film. In fact I think it's possible to be more attached as video games are naturally longer than films and you are more closely linked to the charecters as you are seeing the story through their eyes by controlling their actions.
FFX though is the only one I can recall that I cried while watching/playing. Emotional responce is natural while playing video games, sometimes they can cause me to loose my temper big time (I've lost count of the number of times I've turned a game off in disgust because I died, again).
