Recently a buddy of mine posted an ending of an anime he enjoys in the Skype group we're in and I made the observation of "It's motion capture". Now, apparently he took this as an insult to it and immediately got defensive about it.

ME: the CG is a little offputting to be honest though
especially since it looks like they used motion capture and the heads like kind of out of place on those bodies.

HIM: Fun fact, they didn't.
That's MMD, nothing but.

ME:that's motion capture man

HIM: And do tell HOW you know that.

ME: it might be canned motion capture but it's motion capture

HIM: Do you even know what motion capture is.

I proceeded to answer him, he called me an asshole and then I started posting evidence pointing out they yes, they used motion capture to make the ending of the show. He left the conversation after the first piece of evidence was posted and now the rest of the group is taking his side in saying that I presented it wrong and that I should have had the evidence on hand before making the claim. That apparently you just can't recognize when certain techniques are used in animation from watching it for years.

It was an observation and a declaration, nothing more and I'm getting shit for and I want to know if I'm actually in the wrong here from an outside perspective. To note, my buddy is 19 and I'm 29.

The "issue" likely isn't what you said but how it came across. Perhaps you sounded a bit condescending or know-it-all, or perhaps your friend got sand in his knickers.

Let it go, and consider getting new friends if an exchange about anime is all it takes to result in offence.
