Hi does anybody know a reliable site I can use to test the speed of my broadband connection?

Try Pcpitstop.com it runs test from within the browser it will tell you any drivers that need updated any virus's you have if your cache is on par, and it will run an upload and download speed test, and tons of other things. It will tell you everything you need to know about your computer. Just go there and click on the button on the left that says Full Scan. and sign up (it's free they just need your e-mail and a password so that when you come back they have the info they need about your computer)
I use it all the time it's really helpful.
Also no download it's all in browser.

I don't know any websites but you can start with removing any idle internet using programs like MSN, Skype, Steam and Xfire

I've always used Speedtest.net.

If you have cookies enabled, it'll record and graph every test you take.
