"I actually visited the world before EA were there. It was a happy place; full of grassy meadows and chocolate rivers, where children played with little gumdrop smiles."

HOW COULD I LIVE WITHOUT THOSE GAMES???
That's not the point. I don't care if someone as an individual liked any of those games (the only one I personally thought was great was Dragon Age, with Army of Two and Mirror's Edge being interesting failures to me) but that EA is a big company who is willing to take SOME kind of risk (even then, Dragon Age is probably the least riskiest of these IPs and was the most successful). People can complain all they want that they're crushing the industry with cookie-cutter copies of the same games but their own list of games tells differently.

If you look at this list and tell me that Skate is just Tony Hawk or that Dragon Age is just a standard RPG with NOTHING new to the table (as the OP stated), then you either have never played these games before or nothing is going to please you.

Found some interesting games in there. Diablo for the PS1, James Pond. Also, the Orange Box for PS3.

But if the games that I previously loved, but now hate count, I would not have succeeded this challenge.

But with my current game opinions, I like none of those games. Do I win a prize?
Nope, the list was for fun and not the basis of my argument (see my response to Smash). If it makes you feel better, I'm surprised that none of the current games EA has created got you going (hell, Bioware's contributions alone would make most people happy) : )

Hm, I should probably add the addendum " -anymore" to the sentence "I just don't see the need for companies like this..." for clarity's sake.

The thing is I could make a list like this for just about every major publisher out there and they would end up looking better than EA in comparison. Your list seems long, but then you realize its only 8 games in a long timespan and list of endless sequels and rip offs.
ooh... So tempted to say something about Madden here... about how they bought the NFL license so that they didn't have to worry about that pesky 'competition' aspect of game development anymore, and could just release the same game every year for the next forever without making any significant changes to warrant a sequel...

I think I'll be able to hold myself back though. I'm trying to cut back on my internet arguments.

No EA means DICE has no publisher, which means Mirror's Edge, Crysis (played and liked the first one and Warhead) and Battlefield (the only military FPS I support) don't get made. Of course, that could be remedied by DICE just finding a new publisher (preferably someone like THQ or 2K), so nothing of value is really lost if EA just dies.

Yeah, sure, Steam becomes the PC distribution monopoly again, but it's not really too bad if one considers that Valve made it work for 7 years with little to no competition.

or are people more negativly biased against EA/Bioware than they are gainst Activision/Blizard..Im not seeing so many Diablo 3 hate threads
We had that a while ago with the MW2 crap, most were against Activision. Most people i believed liked EA then, but this Activision no longer does anything we've turned attention to EA. Still, Bobby Kotick is still hated here.

As for EA, we could do without them, but gaming today as we know it might be a whole lot different, either better or worse depending on how you see it.

But we need EA. They set the standard of douche bag business practices. How would we know what was greedy, self destructive, and moronic without EA to show us!

There's never a need for big companies, but they WILL happen. Companies grow when they offer desirable products and practice profitable business strategy. Pick on EA all you want, but at the end of the day, they're still raking in millions, and at least some sliver of that money will come from your pockets.

The issue isn't with the existence of big publishers. The problem is with how scared they are to try anything new and how little attention they pay to customer feedback that isn't filtered through biased surveys.

Also, to anyone who thinks that's what a world without lawyers would be like: Have fun defending yourself in court if you're ever falsely accused of murder or some other horrendous crime.

I'm with the ones saying EA was once good, but suck now. On a slightly related topic, am I the only one who liked the Army of Two games? I never played them solo, I blew through them with a buddy. I'll have my flame shield at the ready.

this list makes me giggle, most cause it's pretty much crap top to bottom.

crap in the sense 'i would never play it' as well as 'it just sucks, should a bought a burger with that money' sense.

there's nothing on this list to justify EA as still 'needed' (as much as a video game publisher is needed mind you) and nothing even worth remembering, DA:O, beat it, spent a lot of time on it, don't remember any thing about it, same with Dante's Inferno.

all EA is good for, and all they've been good for since they started TRYING to make something worth playing (imo), is being greedy fucktards that rip people off :3

Could you make a list of Ninetndo games that have been innovative and have taken risks? I want to see this.
OT: Well do DICE, Bioware and the Dead Space people get to keep making their games? If so yeah get rid of EA. If not, I am fine with dealing with these idiots flounder about so I can play games I like.

As fun of an exercise this is, it's not worth playing. We cannot know because we cannot peer into alternative universes, atleast not until the fed approves my alternate universe viewer.

Also, if we grew up in that universe, we would not even think to ask the question, or if we did, it would be along the lines of, "wouldn't it be awesome if there were three massive conglomerates that control all of gaming? It certainly would be easier to get things done if you did not have to shop games around."

Dragon Age still would have been made. So, no, I think this world would be better off without EA. They ran Bioware into the ground and chased some of their best writing staff away, lousy bastards.

I look back five or so years and I didn't care as much as I do now about who publishes a game. Now if it's an EA published game I don't bother with it, and while big publishers try to get in between myself and the game I want to play (with EULAs, DRM, and spyware crap like Origin) then my money will be spent elsewhere.

EA might be raking in the money, but they're hardly making a profit. I think they'd make more money than they do now if they just stuck to sports games (which I'm told they are good at.) That would be enough to keep me happy.

EA made a halfhearted attempt to "suck less" but eventually decided their reputation was ruined beyond repair and rolled with it. They made and make a lot of Money despite being seen as "evil" by most People who bother to follow gaming News.
They might even be performing some sort of twisted "Service" for the other Companies, EA will try out new barely legal or blatantly illegal Schemes to rip off Money and everyone can see what they can get away with.
This might (hopefully) backfire eventually in a hilarious Way when People eventually stop buying Games. The PC Market is not very lively right now (though i don't think it will die, it kept "dying" since around 1986) and its mostly because of Copyprotection. Which may very well cause your Game not to work at all.

The Console Market might be looking at some dark times as well when the Percentage of Gamers feeling ripped off with every other Game they buy will rise.

The Medium would be better off if EA where to go away. If only People stopped buying their Product, we might be looking at a Future where even EA's pile of Money runs out. And then we only have Ubisoft and Activison to content with...

(For fun, here is a list of EVERY EA game created: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Electronic_Arts_games If you can look at that list and tell me that not ONE of their games is a game that you have loved, I will take this all back and join you in your "I Hate EA" campaign).
.

I looked through that the entire list of EA's games and there is not a single one on that list that stands out as a favorite or loved game. I think other than a couple of the NFS games (underground series for ps2) that I actually finished.

So go ahead you can join the I hate EA ranks.

98% of the games on EA's roster are complete shit. EA puts out shit that's safe for them. Over and over and over they release a new version of the same game with a couple minor changes charge 60 bucks for it instead of releasing the new content as DLC. I mean they have 38 different FIFA titles for Christ's sake! The remaining 2% of the games that don't suck ass have brought virtually nothing to the table that could be considered revolutionary or even contain a shred of risk.

A world without EA for me would be a world of immense gaming possibilities where developers are free to try new things and give us the gaming community some truly wonderful experiences. Instead we have rehashed shit for years with little to no actual innovation, all thanks to EA.

Yes I can, the gaming world was a much better place before the recent generations and these new mischievous and shoddy business practices.
