I didn't search bar this but its recent and I haven't seen any forums about this topic come up so I figured its fair game (If I'm wrong then my bad, post anyway)

1st off, I'd like to say that being from the states I'm not an expert on what is going on with Canada at the moment and the extent of my knowledge of this topic comes from 2 guys that I subscribe to on youtube.

For those who don't know: Recently some corporation in Canada has decided to put a cap on bandwidth usage. Once you go over a certain number of gigabytes (I've heard its either 25gb or 75gb) and when you go over the cap you have to pay something like $2-$4 per gigabyte.

For non-computer literates this means that as you use the internet it uses up gigabytes of bandwidth and any form of video on the internet eats that amount up fast. Youtube, Netflix, even Escapist will burn your bandwith.

Being in the states I'm obviously not affected, but it scares me because if it can happen to the USA's top hat then it could eventually happen here. I live on the internet and having that happen to me would kill me.

So to Canadian Escapists: Did I get my facts straight (probably not) and does this (the cap, not my wrong facts if any) bother you?

To non-Canadian Escapists: Does it worry you, like me, that this COULD possibly happen to you at any time?

TL;DR:
Bandwidth cap in Canada. It sucks. Worried it could happen in states. Discuss.

EDIT: Turns out there was a news forum post that I missed.

Check out that thread for more info on the matter :)

Yeah, the Escapist posted a big debate filled article on that, and it sat on the front page for a few days. It's still there.

Go read that.

If you REALLY want something written down here, I'm totally speechless when I read of it and am glad that Harper is calling it into question.

My bad then. No idea how I missed it if it was on front page though because I practically live on this website.

It's still there, bottom right corner of the nine smaller stories.

Wow, apparently I'm blind (nah, just tired and overworked). Anyway, I edited a link to the news thread about this in my post in case others missed it and had no idea about this.

I'm not certain on the Canadian government's rules but since Harper is the Prime Minister can't he just completely overrule what ever company is trying to do this to the people?

Nope, he's gotta pass it through the usual lawmaking faff which turns out as "How politically charged is this maneuver?" If Bell can gain the approval of the majority of the house, then it'll get passed, screw the public.

Do you think theres a good chance of it getting majority approval?

Leads me to wonder if maybe theres some sort of deal being made with the government wherein the members of your government either get paid from this, aren't affected, or both because I cannot see any other reason as to why a competent government would allow this.

Competent government? Harper is the only sane person we have left!

The last PM was tossed out because he gave MILLIONS of tax dollars to freaking ad companies!
