Warning for discussion of rape and of sexual imagery of minors.

17 year old environmental activist Greta Thunberg has endured an avalanche of online and IRL abuse for simply suggesting that maybe we as a society shouldn?t destroy the planet we all inhabit together. Since her movement went global, Thunberg has been attacked by science deniers, internet trolls, and of course, Donald Trump.
These ghouls wouldn?t let the fact that Thunberg is A CHILD deter them from ridiculing and threatening the Swedish activist, because these people are disgusting. But there is always a new low to sink to, as we discovered this week, when decals featuring a drawing of a sexually abused Thunberg began making the rounds in Alberta (we will not be linking to or showing the image for obvious reasons, but know that is vile).
The image featured the logo of Canadian oil and gas company X-site Energy Services, and was allegedly handed out at work sites to be worn on helmets. The image made its way to concerned Albertan Michelle Narang, who posted it on Facebook and called out X-site for the heinous image. She later said of the decal, ?Silence never creates change, ? it?s sad to me (the sticker) went through a supply chain of people, who thought about it, printed it and distributed it. It blows my mind anyone would think it?s funny.?

This is just sick.

Well, yeah, they are willing to harm the planet we live on for short term profit and they are willing to lie about that to the general public and support all manner of misinformation. Just recently the Dutch news reported that Shell had for years supported climate denier Frits Buttcher to the tune of millions of Guilders and Euro's to do just that. I wish spreading pictures like these was the worst oil companies did to climate activists. Lets be happy she's a famous swede. Had she been less noticed and come from a more corrupt country she'd already be dead in ditch somewhere.

Yes, but how we react depends who did it and so on.

If this was just some less-enlightened individuals, not much to do or say. If management of the company was aware and didn't step in, they need an almighty slap round the chops. I find the claim from the oil company's management that it wasn't done by an employee rather unconvincing.

Oil has made Alberta rich and it's only to be expected that the people who work on polluting the earth will be less likely to believe in the dangers climate change and so on. To them, Greta Thunberg is mostly a threat to their incomes. Nevertheless, someone's got a right problem to think that's an appropriate riposte - although I guess it's in the spirit of the new Trumpian, alt-right zeitgeist.

Nah, it sounds like working class humor to me. The description is vague and I'm not gonna look up what could possibly be described as cartoon child porn, but it sounds something like the logo is fucking the girl. That's considered humor by a male dominated, low education field crew. I did a stint at a plant that had some oil and pipeline field workers there marking time until oil picked back up. Maybe they were MAGA hat wavers outside of work, but this is humor that they'd at least joke about, although I don't think they'd go so far as being dumb enough to print out evidence like the sticker (then again, it might not shock me if they did).

I'm not trying to excuse the sticker. I never liked that humor, and never wanted to be around it. It is the kind of thing that tends to crop up among that class of workers, and it's up to management to keep a lid on that shit. If the sticker got made, it was cuz site management was loose enough on the subject that the guy who made it thought he could get away with it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, although it's possible for it to be as alt-right agitation, it's also just a problem endemic to that kind of workplace culture, the whole gym locker virile macho thing. There tends to be some overlap, but the former is a recent phenomena while the latter goes back for ages.

Put it another way, is this a joke an Adam Sandler movie would make? If yes, it fits as field crew "humor".

Okay so this is all horrible and the like, but I keep seeing new articles saying this depicts a minor in a sexual act. Greta Thunberg is 17. The age of consent in Canada is 16. So technically speaking this is just horrific, unacceptable drawn porn of an adult, rather than child porn.

Age of consent can be entirely separate from the limit for age to appear in pornography.

For example, the age of consent varies in US states from 14?-18, but any sexual photographs, video, etc that contains someone under the age of 18 is deemed child pornography and therefore illegal.

Also, "minor" tends to be used until a person comes of age legally. Based on this wikipedia page, that age would be 18-19 in Canada and 18 in Sweden.

Child pornography in Canada includes under the age of 18 years. Age of consent is a different to the age for child pornography (and even child prostitution which is also under 18 years)

What are you trying to pull out here, dude?

To be clear while being as vague as possible, the image is of a generic woman with braided hair, no face shown, that they stamped the name Greta on top of. The tattoo artist that made the original image without the name is apparently irritated about them stealing it and using it for that. It's about as much child pornography as if you took a stamp that said "17 years old" and put it on every page of playboy.

So I haven't seen the image itself. Did they really just put Gretta's name in it, and that's it? Like not even her face?

Try as I might, I couldn't come up with a tasteful way to say "from behind".

Well, that explains why the authorities didn't consider it criminal matter. A bunch of oil workers overtly fantasizing on having Gretta f*cked if she doesn't f*ck off is very deplorable and pathetic, but not illegal.

There isn't really a way and that's the point. These assholes are being tasteless, and its disgusting. But also just lazy and pathetic.

The level of fear and hate just for someone standing against something that actually is altering the ability of our planet to support life...
Hope these people all get steamed alive in a volcano.

So like what is it exactly that people have a problem with her? I hear accusations that the parents are using her to push their agenda or something.

I've heard various reasons given outside of generally being opposed to her message. The main one is usually how artificial her rise to be the face of environmentalism has been. Supposedly the reason why she exploded into fame as to opposed to any of the thousands of other young activists over the years is that it was cynically orchestrated by her wealthy former actor parents and their various media connections. Another thing I have seen cited was that her publicity stunt decrying the use of air travel by traveling in a fancy boat was massively hypocritical because she effectively tripled her carbon footprint compared to if she had just flown due to the crew that needed to be flown out to return the boat. I've also heard people complain that she and others like her are put out in front of movements because they can get away with more because it is hard to hit back at a young autistic girl without looking like an asshole, though clearly not everyone is worried about that as evidenced by the OP

Allow me to attempt an explanation:

"She was 15 then and is 17 now. A teenager. With mental problems."
"She is not a climatologist, or even a scientist. She also actively encourages other children to abstain from school."
"She uses emotional arguments or emotional expressions to convey her arguments."
"Her fame has been manufactured, and the upcoming documentary claims to have followed her from her earliest time since the first school-strike."

I will describe the problem using the words of a pro-Greta article: https://www.thedailybeast.com/greta-thunberg-is-the-climate-heroine-we-need

In October 2018, Thunberg started having anxiety-ridden 3 a.m. nightmares, but unlike before, they were not about her. The recurring nightmares were about the impact of global warming on the planet...
This time, instead of holing up in her bedroom as she did before treatment, she decided that her anxiety about the climate needed to become everyone else's, too.
I fully understand that climate change isn't something a single person can majorly impact on their own, but nobody likes the person who tries to solve their problems by making everyone else miserable on purpose.

Hating on teen girls is fun. Especially when they are famous and many of the hatedom haven't achieved fame and won't ever. Having a rabid hatedom is quite normal for female celebrities (male to a lesser extent unless you are Justin Bieber or someone).

Oh, and yeah, the whole talking about the problem people don't want to hear about thing, but I think it's mostly people getting off on hating successful young women.
