I just finished writing an OP and completely wiped it after I decided I didn't like how it sounded. It was a few minutes of my time that's gone now and seeing as I'm still on the new topic page I figured we might as well talk about this.

How many threads do you cancel? Just something you decided wasn't worth posting after all? Or did you go away and forget why you wanted to post it?

I do this with replies too. I'll write up something then close the tab when I decide I really don't care about responding.

There were about three or four reviews that I wrote up that I decided won't ever see the light of day. I suppose those were planned threads.

I had a couple of actual threads (that I can't remember now, so don't ask what they were) that I was going to post but deleted before hitting "post." Not many, though, as I don't really start threads.

I've cancelled a few threads, but not many. I guess I don't make threads that often anyway. But when I do I want to make sure it's something I think has conversation value to it. A couple of times I've thought of making threads based on random musings or a single thought, but decided against it since there wasn't enough to say about it.

I more often cancel comments. It might be with about the same average frequency as I cancel threads, but like I said I don't really post threads that much so I don't know for sure. Usually I delete a comment because I realise it was an emotional knee-jerk response which won't add anything to the conversation other than drama. Other times it's because I'm just rambling and not even making a clear point, or someone else in the thread has already said everything I wanted to say anyway.

I always proof-read posts, and that helps me to cut out stuff like that, apart from obviously making sure I don't make any SPAG mistakes.

I haven't done it that often with threads but I do it all of the time with posts. Normally it's because someone else has already posted what I think so I decide there's no point in repeating it. Either that or I'll type a really angry rant and realise it's not worth the hassle.

I'm a little too shy to really try to post new threads in the first place.

I haven't cancelled any threads that I thought of making, but then, I've only made 2 or 3 of my own on this site since joining.

I haven't created too many threads of my own but I have deleted about 2-3 of ones I have started. The ideas sounded so much better in my head but once I started typing them, they seemed so banal.

I do that a lot with posts, I tend to go off on really long tangents and then it ends up not having much to do with the actual topic.

With threads, well I don't often do threads but I have indeed deleted a lot more than I actually have posted, mostly because I'm one of those people that feels they have to put the reason why they came up with the thread and the story always ends up being the longest part of my post and some of the few times I have posted, the story derails the actual topic, fortunately the last thread I made had a fairly OK reason for the story and it actuall didn't derail anything.

since my spell check in the word program i use works only when it wants to, i tend to use the 'new thread' button as my personal spell check assistant XD

Quite a few. Sometime I made a thread to intend to get alot of views and comments (I want that On Fire badge). While it I think it will be success but when I think more about it or start typing it I realise it will be a failure so I stop it.

This.

I once even wrote a thread mourning the pain of watching a thread slide down the list.

It's like losing a favorite puppy.

I've only nulled one thread: "Michael Clarke Duncan--AKA "Papa Bear" has died." I hadn't checked if anyone had made one so I went back and mentioned the other thread then stripped my post of content.

RIP Papa Bear.

Question: Is there a way to completely erase a thread you've made, rather than just editing out the OP?

Yes but you have to ask a mod to do it, normally via PM.

I don't post threads.

I do occasionally have this happen when just replying to threads, when I reach a point that I realise I don't actually give a shit about the topic enough to justify the effort I put into crafting a relevant post.

I never really post threads. I've been tempted to start a league of legends thread a few times, but I'm a bit too shy to start up a thread. I have cancelled a few replies before though, mostly due to me changing tabs before replying, then coming back and forgetting what I was going to say.

When I make a thread, I want to make sure it's a good one.
There have been times, I've thrown around ideas in my head,
but usually I talk myself out of them before I go posting.

Sometimes I do with post, but not usually with replies.

I do this to probably 98% of my comments because I feel like whatever I want to say someone else has already said it better and I don't want to be a "what that guy said." person.

I've only bothered making 2 threads, so yeah, doesn't ever come up.

I will often make massive rewrites to some of the posts I've made, usually when I'm in a discussion or debate. There have been plenty of times I've written a multiparagraphed essay of a post, then reduced it greatly to be much simpler and concise so that the point comes across better. That way there is less of a chance the person I'm debating with will cut up my words and use them out of context to diminish the credibility of my point without actually addressing it.

I have tried to make a few, I really have. Non have survived for numerous reasons, which included and sudden strong feeling of worry, nervousness, etc. Heck, I would have a lot more posts, but for the same reasons I cancel those too. One day maybe I will create a thread that may live, even if for but one page, but that day has not come yet.

There's times when I write without thinking at 2 AM before looking over my work and realizing how stupid it was sounding...
