So, I was making my rounds of my favorite web comics, my usual practice at this time of the 'day', when I came across this:
http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/t_cells.png

At face value, it is amusing (as all xkcd comics are), and insightful, but got me thinking: "Wait, what Leukemia Trial?"
So I did a bit of googling.
Here is what I found. By all means, do your own googling (or whatever search engine you use) and research your own material. This is just one source, and it may not be entirely true. I had read another source before this one, but it was so full of technical and medical jargon, that it was hard to figure out what the hell was being talked about.

From what I gather: some scientists have cured cancer in 2/3 patients, using the blood of said patients, that has been modified by HIV.
At first, all that can be said about this is "FUCKING GREAT! NO MORE CANCER!", except, I've seen I Am Legend. And many other zombie/infection movies. And I know how medical science has a way of jumping the gun on what works, and what works...

So, what are your thoughts about this?
Find any other sources that support/disclaim my findings?

DAMN SCIENCE, YOU SCARY

Nah, I kid, partially. There's always an inherent natural fear of the worst case scenario when dealing with any scientific research. We're just shooting dice till it comes up zombies. We just hope we've squirreled away a cure or perhaps a super-serum to make us tougher by then.

My biggest fear (paranoia, whatevs) is that greed and big companies are keeping miracle drugs away from us now, for fear of not enough profit.

Nothing, I am just paranoid of anything that seems too good to be true.
And fixing cancer, is way too good to be true.

You don't just cure cancer. There's more to it then that. Cancer is several different strains there is no one "cancer" but yes, they've been making pretty big advances lately using HIV.

Well... there have been successful cancer trials for years but none of them are ever seriously effective over the long term or can have worse side effects.

I'm going to stay skeptical until the trials replace the current treatment and survival rates improve.

curing stuff like infections seemd once like "too good to be true" until that great invention: penicillin, which in essence is mold "are you sick? here, eat some mold"
cholera killed a huge ammount of people until some one came to the idea "clean water could be nice"
humans are funny that way, we are masters of killing off our own banes, which in it self has some.. less good side effects... damn you nature! why did you make us smart enough to over populate the earth killing everything, including you?!?!

oh anw, the likelyhood of a "cancer cure" making you into a zombie is... well... not very high, the "living dead" in it self is a rather absurd concept, dead things don't move and certainly don't need to sustain them selves with anything anymore, because the reson the body is dead in the first place is because it can't function, vital parts are beyond repair.

If there are gonne be any zombies I'd put my bet on mutated rabies. I mean, we pretty much already have zombies then, they just don't exclusivly go for human brains, and don't survive that long after being infected, but the bite of a rabies infected creature spreads rabies just as a zombie bite spreads the zombie infection, they are aggressive and unreasonable, trying to bite anything in their way.
clearly a short lived, not dead zombie.

Intriguing.

I expect superheroes soon. Weapon X esque, perhaps? The world could TOTALLY use deadpool right now.

"oh, you're rioting? Lemme come! *pulls out machine guns* AHHAAAHAAA!"
