Hey all!

wasn't quite sure where to place this thread or if another one exists but here I go anyway.

I recently started playing Dragon age origins and instantly fell madly head over heels in love with it.....

The problem is that I ALWAYS play as an elven rogue. Every time....I'm a rogue.....I can't seem to veer away from the sneaky little gits and play as something else.

So I thought I'd ask you guys, the greatest collection of minds on the planet.....am I missing out here?
Is there another class just as good?
What sort of class (and origin if you like) would you recommend?

BTW.
I have the stone prisoner, wardens keep and awakening add on

P.S.
It has come to my attention that no one other than myself seems to like the dalish origin so lets not bother talking about how much we all seem to dispise the little woodland wanderers.

I have given it a little try but I felt a little bored just sitting at the back hurling fireballs.

This may sound slightly disturbing but......I like to cut things....a lot....in game of course.

You could play as a dual-wielding warrior or two-handed warrior then.

I have three characters: a Dwarf Warrior, Elf Rogue and Human Mage. They all have their own unique traits that makes them equally enjoyable, my only problem is if I'm not a rogue, I always have to have Leliana in my party, whom I don't really like (gameplay wise) but because shes the only one who is skilled at lockpicking I have to take her along (unless you sink enough points into Zevran, but that takes awhile)

Dwarven warrior with two-handed axe... nothing beats that if you like cutting :D
btw, rogue is also one of my favorites, in any rpg game for that matter

The Dwarven Noble Origin is my favorite, and my favorite playthrough was the one where I made a duel-wielding dwarven warrior.

the mage origin story is pretty awesome, too.

I admittedly never really liked playing as a rogue. They're brittle little bastards and they don't do near enough damage to make up for it. They do seem to dodge a lot though, but I'll be damned if it didn't take only one hit to almost kill Leliana every time. Though lock-picking is the greatest thing ever.

Here is another question:

If playin a sword shield/2H sword warrior.
whats the best stats to give them.
This may sound a little odd but...I don't like getting hit so would high dex help a warrior like it does rogues?

Yeah, a dual-wielding dagger rogue absolutely owns in that game.... I loaded my character into Awakening and I hardly get hit... even by bosses. I've only even had two instances where a character in my party suffered an injury. It's crazy how overpowered they are.

Well, if you're into killing all your enemies AND all your allies, the mage is for you.

Just pick up a few good aoe spells and make sure to let them cool down before each fight and you can pretty much throw two or three down and then watch *everything* die.

Redcliffe was great fun, i liked how they thanked me at the end like it wasn't me that killed them all.

Dwarf Noble Rogue. Unstoppable, and filthy rich thanks to Gorim.

:)

I'm going a mage next. Now that I understand proper builds for them after fucking up Morrigan into a useless mage.

Don't worry about it, mate. For some reason, I can't resist the rogue class either. I also seem to have a fondness for the Dalish Elf origin as well, even though my main character right now is a human noble.

I've heard that it's quite fun to play as a mage though.

I should state that i have something of an aversion to the dwarfs

nothing against the guys its just....have you seen their arms?
human and elf arms are in proportion to their bodies but the dwarves hands are coming down past their knees for gods sake!

Any longer and they would be dragging their knuckles on the floor.
I try to ignore it but my eyes keep getting drawn back to them every time.

I played as a Mage, then a rogue. Then a rogue. Then a rogue. Then a rogue.

I figure if I really want to play as anything else, I'll just control Alistair or Morrigan or something.

The rogue kicks serious ass. Nothing takes down a horde of darkspawn faster than a dual wielding rogue. No, not even a mage. I've tried.

I usually play a Human warrior. I prefer the story and the class, but not experiencing the other classes is probably a bad idea. I'm about to start a Mage and play through that storyline just to experience it.

Arcane Warrior specialization on the Mage is fucking broken.
Get all the passive buffs, like ice blade, fire blade, stone skin and magic shield. At the start you'll be buffing the hell out of your party, all will be good for the first part of the game.

Except, with Arcane Warrior, you can now use your MAGIC stat in place of the STRENGTH stat for all equipment. Holy shit!

So now you can equip the heaviest armor and the greatest swords, PLUS you have fire blade and cold blade, PLUS you have Stone skin AND you have magic shield your physical defense is through the god damn roof (mine was much higher than shales) since you have amazing armor and stone skin, and your magic defense is also through the roof since you have such a high magic stat and magic shield. If you also picked the healing spell patch you can just heal yourself and the games over. You can tank like... anything.

Plus, if the going gets tough, you STILL are a mage and you can still cast any spell you could before (though some require you to have your weapon UNEQUIPPED! That's important, watch out for that).

The one downside is you'll probably be putting more into CON and DEX than a regular mage would, but I cleaned the damn floor with my Arcane Warrior. I was also a blood mage, which was complimented well with my high CON. The blood mage AOE is great as it ignores friendlies on any difficulty so you can be pretty careless with it. It also hurts a damn lot.

I'm in a similar situation friend; I can't stop playing Human Noble Warrior - Every time I try.
Of course I achievement whored all the starter quests, but always play as Warrior Human; Just has to be done.

Think you failed to see you can become an Arcane Warrior/Mage. Basically means that you are a tanker, decked in heavy plating, enchanced with magic, capable of casting spells to a degree, take alot of damage and still live or generally avoid everything when you are hitting those levels.

So don't worry, at level 7 you can already begin hacking as a mage, which is very close to the first village.
No no I know all about the arcane warrior and I'm staying well away from that one!
sure its an all powerful murder machine but it seems to me and my mates that it ruins the concept of the fragile yet powerful mage who lets his/her friends keep the enemy away while he/she weaves his/her magic power.

What's wrong with Dalish Elves? My Dalish Rogue kicks all the ass.

I don't think it matters what class you choose, you can always play your companions and level them the way you want for other classes.
