I don't mind the Capatcha. It sometimes even makes me think twice about posting needlessly.

That said I found it a bit strange the see The Escapist implementing this as I can't think of a single time ever seeing spam on this forum. Even in the pre-Capatcha days.

To contribute to the meme thingy going on.

For this, I had "cemplen patrem". Easy enough.

He well I wouldn't know anything about this at least not on this site. Never had it happen here, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with being a Pub Club member.

If not, then I'm very lucky with how many posts I make each month.

In all likelihood some kind of misunderstanding like that spawned wicca.
That was awesome, I still can't stop laughing.

Honestly, all the captcha does is keep me from contributing to any discussions on this site. I'm only posting to this thread because it seems I'm allowed one post every couple of hours before I get a captcha. I'm sure the real reason is just to get people to join the Publisher's Club.

Also, I never saw spam here either, but I usually just read the news room posts.

This site has captcha?
That's what I was thinking. The entire time I've been signed up on the Escapist (pretty much 6 months exactly), I've never had to enter Captcha.

EDIT - Read the post above mine.

Does having Pub Club disbale Captcha? If so, how new is Captcha (here)? I've only had Pub Club since December.

I just had to type that to post this thread. I'm sure many of you reading this had to type some similar gibberish to reply to another thread earlier today. Now, I have nothing against spam-protection, but isn't it a little odd that people who have high post counts and have been registered for months, even years, get a spambot check every once in a while? If it's not too inconvenient, I believe a system should be set up where, once a user reaches a certain post count and, say, two weeks registration time, they should no longer have to suffer having to type indecipherable nonsense.
Problem is, accounts can be "hacked". I think it's a necessary evil, my only complaint is that it's usually indistinguishable... For a little while early in it's implementation it was just an image of simple, crisp, clear lettering. That is how it should be.
But it's not as bad as some, and far preferable to spambots or something equally annoying. At least there is the refresh button, I've seen some without that... Awful.

I never thought that The Escapist had a Spambot problem. They would come up, every now and again, but they were always reported to high hell and kicked right out of here. This Capatcha thing seems completely pointless to me.

Thankfully I don't have to put up with them because I give The Escapist 20 bucks a year. Hmmm, maybe that's why they have Capatcha?

Thats great.. that you give 20 bucks a year... But I really want to know the reason behind this,,, Is there any solid reason behind this????

They need to go. They seem to be specifically designed to be painful for dyslexics to read. I often have to refresh the captcha multiple times before a readable one appears.

I had trouble reading the word consent in that. It's the way the s is partly joined up with the e.

The problem with that is what happens when spammers make an account and let it sit for two weeks?

The Captcha's aren't perfect, I don't even get them and even I know that. The Staff is still working on fixing the problems they get with the current system.

For the benefit of everyone who doesn't know, you only have to type one of the words.

If you have two 'normal-like' words, for example, I have 'wun/s entinta', the 'wun/s can be substituted with any random character, only entinta is necessary.

If it was gibberish and random characters and then latin letters, you can substitute the gibberish with any random letter or number and just type the letters.

For example, I just typed 's entinta' and here is my post ^.^

I think it's kinda silly. We never had much spam before it and it doesn't always check anyways. It's their choice though, so whatever.

SASSON inerada. Huh.
