Capcom Credits Monster Hunter 4 Sales for Record Earnings

Resident Evil 5 has now surpassed Street Fighter 2 as Capcom's best-selling game ever.

Cuts and restructuring at Japanese games giant Capcom have painted a somber picture over the last few months. An unspecified number of more than half of its employees [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125897-Capcom-Suffers-Layoffs] as part of the ongoing restructuring. Today, Capcom is looking a little brighter due to a 16.9% increase in net sales over the six-month period ending September 30, 2013. Financial results released today report sales of 53 billion yen, and net income up 20% to 4.9 billion yen. Capcom reports that, "Sales and income for this 6 months period broke the record at all levels for the first half [of the fiscal year]."

Capcom credits Monster Hunter 4 for the financial success. The latest installment in the Monster Hunter series has sold 3 million units as of October 15, 2013. Released in Japan on September 14, the Nintendo 3DS title adds three dimensional landscapes and mid-air attacks [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127460-Monster-Hunter-4-Devs-Discuss-Gameplay] to the gameplay. Other recent Capcom titles Resident Evil Revelations and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinities achieved projected sales.

Capcom's recently updated investor relations data [http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html] shows that Resident Evil 5 is now Capcom's best-selling game ever with 6,500 thousand units sold since release in 2009. This overtakes 1992 title Street Fighter 2, which reports 6,300 thousand units sold (but does not include all various versions of Street Fighter 2 released by Capcom). Capcom lists 61 titles with over one million units sold.

There is still no news about whether Monster Hunter 4 will come to North America or Europe, though Capcom stated on the Monster Hunter Facebook page [https://www.facebook.com/monsterhunter/posts/635553283132660] that they are continuing to evaluate new Monster Hunter titles for the West.

Huh? you got me confused there... Title feels misleading in that it talks about how capcom is doing right now. I suggest to put another title out like: capcom releases financial data, or capcom is recovering. Think the latter is better.

Anyhoo, I hope they release monhun 4. I'm hooked on the game with 3 and I still have ways to go with that one.

Odd that it's only being considered when it's likely that 4 is the most tailored to the complaints of western critics. Keeps the soft lock-on of Ultimate, gets rid of swimming in favor of fast paced climbing and a new clinging mechanic, and has a stronger central story with special story quests and a core cast of NPCs.

Also, and this may be little but I feel is worth mentioning, full online play right off the bat for the first time ever on a portable title.

Eh, we'll probably get it when the HD version is made.

It's also got some nintendo colab gear; a Skyloft tunic and Link wig, Master Sword and Hylian Shield S&S, Sacred Bow, Mario and Luigi costumes for the felyne partners and a quest where Congalala eats a Mario World mushroom and turns giant.

now, what was that about CAPCOM being in financial trouble again? Looks like all those people being dramatic about their supposed collapse look pretty silly now. Hopefully this will come West soon, even if it doesn't have as large a following over here.
