Capcom Denies Snubbing PS3 Over Dead Rising 2 DLC

PS3 gamers shouldn't think that there's something missing from their version of Dead Rising 2, Capcom says, despite the lack of downloadable content.

Capcom insists that PS3 owners aren't being short-changed by the decision to make the downloadable DR2 episodes exclusive to the Xbox 360, saying that they're just extras to the main game, and that it's complete without them.

Co-producer Shinsaku Ohara said that PS3 gamers weren't being alienated by the exclusive DLC, because the game was whole whether you'd player Case Zero and Case West or not. He said that Keiji Inafune, Capcom's head of R&D, was sorry that PS3 players would get slightly less of the DR2 universe, but that they would still be able to enjoy the game. Blue Castle Games' Rob Barrett echoed Ohara and Inafune's comments, saying that Dead Rising 2 was designed to be a self-contained and enjoyable experience.

Speaking to Eurogamer [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-03-capcoms-keiji-inafune-interview] earlier in the month, Inafune explained Capcom's attitude towards the exclusive DR2 DLC, and said that it was a thank you to platform that had nurtured the first Dead Rising and made the sequel possible. "At the beginning we didn't know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one. So it's like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans."

Sucks that PS3 players won't get the downloadable content...

Although from my experience with Case: Zero, it's fun but you aren't missing anything. All of the unlockables are cosmetic anyway.

Can't wait for this or Case: West!

Inb4 someone blaming "Micro$oft".

SO we shouldn't feel bad that we get less? I could get this on both PC and PS3, so I'm doubly missing out D:

To be honest, it doesn't bother me all that much, but in a time where a lot of exclusives are moving towards the PS3 now (or both of the consoles but not the PC), it's odd that the xbox won out here.

Also, the extra leveling and stuff you get from Case: Zero might not be all that big a deal, but from it you get a head start and you've already gotten used to the controls again.

Is this because Capcom didn't want to foot the bill for the bandwidth used for downloading the demo on the PSN?

From what I can gather Case Zero was quite a popular download and quite substantial in file size, so I can understand Capcom not wanting to have to pay Sony for every copy of the trial that's downloaded, especially when each trial downloaded isn't a guaranteed purchase.

Cosmetic changes = meh
More missions, characters, or gameplay = fuck you Capcom.

Unfortunately Capcom is well known for snubbing the PS3.

If you think Microsoft didn't pay for this exclusive content, just like they paid for GTA IVs exclusive content, and a ton of other people's exclusive content, then I would suggest that either you're incredibly Naive, or delusional.

I'll probably get the DLC for the 360 but the main game on the PS3.

Though in all honesty, I still haven't played more than ten minutes of the first game.

I never said they didn't.

I just hate people saying 'Micro$oft'.

I mean seriously... it's idiotic.

Hell yeah Microsoft most likely did pay off this exclusive. Like the rest of them. I'm pissed about the $<--- way to miss my point.

I can understand this, i played through my friends case zero and found it was a small little part of the overall game. But i guess Xbox owners do kinda deserve a little gift. Its strange it not on PC tho since Microsoft are supposed to be supporting PC Gaming.

Let's debunk what is going on here.

In the end Capcom is out to make money. In an enviroment where game companies are increasingly less likely to want to be tied to exclusive releases, one of the big areas of competition by console companies comes in the form of exclusive DLC and extras for games.

I think Capcom is full of BS, and is basically taking the wrong track with their explanation. Rather they should be honest about what is doubtlessly going on: Microsoft paid them a ton of money to produce exclusive DLC for the 360 so people would support the 360 and buy the game for their console.

A similar arrangement to what happened with "Grand Theft Auto IV" when Microsoft gave Rockstar tons of cash to produce exclusive content, though that was entirely up front, and we DID eventually see these add ons released multi-platform.

In this case I think Microsoft is being clever by going for prequels (or a prequel) with their comission because that means that even if contracts dictate the producing company can release it in other formats later, people are going to be less interested when the game itself is out.

Saying that they are doing this to support the 360 probably sounds more politic to them, but in reality I think it has the opposite effect. Of course part of it might also be part of a promotional agreement where Capcom is expected to present things that way as part of the overall promotion.

Such are my thoughts at least. I very much doubt Capcom really did this out of the goodness of their hearts and love of the 360 platform. There was probably a big chunk of money involved.

At any rate, this is no differant than the PS-3 getting the special "Divine Edition" of "Dante's Inferno", or the previously mentioned "Grand Theft Auto IV". It's just more noticible because it's a bigger game/franchise than Dante, and it's being handled in less of an up-front fashion than the "GTA IV" thing.

People who own one console, generally drool over whatever benefits the other side is getting that they don't if it's for a game they want, and that turns to a degree of anger and resentment. Even with the great reduction in "exlusive titles" the console wars continue. Those fortunate enough to have both game boxes (like me) of course have more options and thankfully have to worry less about such things.

If anything people should be blaming Sony for the general "snubbing" the console seems to receive. The differance seems to be that Microsoft is willing to throw money to developers for the extras much more than Sony is.

So basically they're saying this:

"Don't worry guys, you're not getting less content. You're just getting less content!"

That's some kind of insane troll logic [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InsaneTrollLogic].

I personally don't care if the game is complete or not.
I don't care if it is a thank you for the system that nurtured the first
If you make the game multi-platform, don't be a lazy shit and make the DLC exclusive

I'm fine with exclusive games and content on different consoles. It may not help fanboys feuds, but at least it promotes some healthy competition within the industry, and helps to define each console in their own right. But don't insult our intelligence Capcom. If XBox owners get one thing, and PS3 owners don't, then obviously Dead Rising on XBox > Dead Rising on PS3, regardless of how superficial you make it out to be.

If people complain, then bully for them, they should have got an XBox, whatever, no-one fucking cares. But, as I said, don't try to insult our intelligence by making them out to be the same deal.
