And once again I fail to see why they don't wanted to play this game.
I mean, look at this:

LOOK HOW COOL THIS GAME LOOK!!!!!!!

Of course I mean by the look of it. The gameplay is another story....

X does not simply go evil, so the story was crap anyway. He was in a capsule for decades for a reason before the start of the X series.

There's no need to remake or put a twist on anything, just pull the good old concept back and make more 2D Classic and X Megaman games, they were fine as they were, don't screw it up damnit.

Megaman X: Command Mission on PS2. It was ok... could have been better, but it could have been a LOT worse. Command Mission could do with a new "in the style of" version/game, just like the rest of the X series.
"In the Style Of" what?

Personally, I would have loved a Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 style fighting game for Mega Man Battle Network.

As I said to my buddy on facebook...

This "could" have been good. Maybe.

But it lacked everything that made megaman...well...megaman.

His design wasn't good (where's his face? Why the weird X visor?), the gameplay looked really static with none of the pinpoint dodging that the series is known for, the enemies were bland mechas and not the colorful cast of cast-iron baddies we expect...

With a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of refinement (and a better reason for X to go rogue. He's a paragon, not a badass seeking a challenge. Make him go knight templar if you're gonna make him evil!), then maybe...MAYBE this could have been good.

As it is, I can only shrug.

Seeing this, the screenshot for the prototype, and the fan trailer....I'm just so pissed off:

-Why can't Capcom figure out what to do with their franchises instead of dragging their feet on everything?

-Why won't they close the timeline gap on what happened between MM and MMX?

-What made them or anyone think making MM "gritty" (and faceless?!) was going to be a good idea, regardless of them trying to add "depth" to the story?

-Why do clearly talented and creative fans crank out amazing videos on tiny budgets that look better than anything I see in movies or games, yet I never hear of them getting picked up by a studio (with the exception I believe of Monty Om of "Haloid" and "Dead Fantasy" fame)?

-Why must I feel guilty at the thought that a good movie based on any of Capcom's properties would launch a Marvel style juggernaut studio, but would still have to benefit the jackasses who run Capcom?

-Bonus - Why can't they make a Dynasty Warriors-esque action/strategy game? It's the Maverick Wars, right? Surely they could do a game with Robot Masters as commanders or something?

There's still a fundamental flaw in Capcom's strategy when they start developing and planning an entire trilogy before the first game is even made.

Capcom still hasn't learned to plan out the first game, release the complete version, and don't plan around DLC/sequels.

What a seriously dumb idea.

I'm actually pretty glad it got canceled. The only bad thing about it is that Capcom is going to continue to ignore the megaman series.

... Probably for the best at the end of the day. Game could've been pretty awesome, but I doubt it would have been megaman.

More Megaman legends. More. I see some series getting re releases and updates and new games, but games like Legends fall to the wayside. It makes me sad.

According to sources familiar with the project, Maverick Hunter would "be like taking an 8-bit game that doesn't have a very deep story to it, and then building around it and keeping some of the key pieces intact." Focusing on the theme of man versus machine, the developer had been in preparation to produce a trilogy in which X, the returning protagonist of Mega Man X, eventually becomes jaded from fighting robots like himself and turns on his creators. The third game in the trilogy would have gamers playing as Zero, another returning character, trying to stop X.
Okay, I know very little about the story of the X series, but even I can tell that there would be endless bitching about that. Almoast as much as talking about voice acting or female Link in a Zelda game.

So Capcom is apparently getting the brain that the other game developers have been playing 'keep away' with.

Coming to think of it, a Mega-Man RPG would be freaking epic, a pokemon-esque one, where your Navi gains the levels and the equipment....
Wasn't there a one for the PS3 with Megaman X? Squad command or something?
You're thinking of X Command Mission on the PS2. Fun game, leveling system was kinda unfair though.

OT: At this point it would be news to hear that there isn't a Megaman game that hasn't been cancelled. Although this time I will admit that Capcom did the right thing. Now do the other right thing and finish Legends 3 dammit, we Legends fans have been waiting over 10 years for it! >.<

I do find it surprising that CAPCOM of all people would find this a bad idea. They are known for some pretty stupid things...

It sounds like the zero games, whereas X wasn't a clone.

Seriously though, I'm glad they ditched it, this is just so much not megaman that it hurts.

Actually judging from the description of the story, cancelling it might actually be for the best. Then again I've never been much of a fan of dark and gritty.

In other news, Capcom canceled yet another Mega Man game...

Except this time it was actually an intelligent choice, if reading the article wasn't clear enough.

This wouldn't of been a "Mega Man X". They wanted to completely reboot the story, probably hoping just to do some shitty FPS title with a big-named IP attached to it for easy profit.

X was, and is, a pacifistic robot. He hated fighting, but did what he needed to do, not just to protect people, but people and reploids both, from rogue machines. There was already conflict within the games proper, but I doubt these guys have ever even touched Mega Man X, much less Mega Man.

Even if he had grown jaded, like he already did in the games, he'd have no reason to start trying to kill the people who "Created" him (seeing as Light was his creator, 30 years prior to Mega Man X). Again, this just completely reeks of incompetent devs hoping for an easy pay-day.
Yeah... wasn't really saying that canceling it was a bad choice. The game looked stupid as hell. It was just sort of an acknowledgement; like seeing that another Joss Whedon show has been canceled.

Also, I don't need you to re-tell the story of Mega Man (X or otherwise) to me, as I'm incredibly familiar with the continuity. I literally grew up on this series and I'm sad to see it gone to hell. But hey, thanks for the condescension.
